The com- petition was confined to players selected from the various club's house league teams in the Atom and Mosquito divisions. Except for dismal, rainy weather on Sunday, the competition was an astound- ing success with a terrific brand of soccer being pro- duced by many players. Scugog was represented in the Atom Select team by Mellissa Bramham, Harley Wonder, David Weirzbicki, Jamie Brown, Graham Sullivan, Danny Sluggett, Alex Cranmer, Brian Kerry, Brian Appleby, Ethan Lavereau, Chris Yuill, Jason Towns, Clair Cornish, Vince Lal gy PIR hy SATN, a "RY S TRFLE? # Fd Criscione, John Andrews and Cole Parry. The Scugog Mosquito Select team was comprised of Philip McBride, Glenn Page, Robert Bullins, David Irvine, David Petrie, Kenny Lamb, David Schwan, Derek Martens, Ian Thompson, Peter Brock, Michael Sorley, Michael Toye, James Stubbs, Jan Westerman, Chris Watson and John- David Rodway. In the elimination rounds on Saturday it became evident that in the Atom Division Rexdale, Ajax, Scugog and Bowmanville had strong teams, and indeed, these clubs advanced into Sunday's semi-finals. Scugog recorded two good wins over first Whitby and then Uxbridge before going down to Rexdale. The team played with tremendous spirit with everyone pulling their weight. The goalie, defenders and offence were all superb and performed admirably until fatique set in during the last game against a very strong Rexdale team. Jamie Brown, Clair Cornish and Brian Appleby were Scugog's scorers. Our Atoms reappeared on Sunday and, though minus two of their key players, they fought a tremendous semi- final battle with Whitby to emerge winners by a goal scored by Brian Appleby. This left them to play their old adversaries, Rexdale, in the final. Perhaps their previous effort coupled with a non-ending downfall of rain had some effect but things did not click with our team and the superb ball control and strong running of Rexdale sent our boys (and girl) to a 6-0 defeat. How- ever, the Atoms were not disgraced and they tried to the end. Danny Sluggett, our captain, was a proud yound lad when he was presented the runners-up trophy. The Scugog Mosquito team did not fare nearly as well as were eliminated on Sat- urday. They were unfor- unate to go against very good teams from Bowmanville and Peterborough who had obviously played a lot together and who handed out our boys demoralizing defeats. However, in our game against Newmarket, the lads picked up their spirits and came close, going down by a 6-5 score. Strong running by John David Rod- way, James Stubbs and Michael Sorley lifted the team to produce some good fighting spirit. Philip McBride never stopped and the defence played with some authority. Hard lines, lads, there were some awful good players in the other teams who had practiced together for many weeks. The Mosquito final was eventually played between Peterborough and Rexdale with the latter emerging winners.
