Like many women, the - idea of touring an automo- tive museum held no special attraction, however, after visiting the Automotive Museum located on 99 Simcoe St. S., in Oshawa, this Star reporter was pleas- antly surprised. 'he museum provides a refreshing tour through the car ages from pre-1900 models to the 1975 Bricklin. "We're trying to change the attitude that there is just a bunch of old cars," said Gordon Brackett, manager of the museum, "People get Eo Pe GY co oT k ® : caught up in nostalgic memories here." Senior Citizens especially enjoy the cobble-stoned trip down memory lane but everyone including children get a kick out of the various four-wheeled contraptions displayed at the museum. The museum handles about 600 visitors a week and this year marks its 20th year in operation. Mr. Brackett said the museum has one of the largest GM collections housed in one building in Canada and that people have sited from such farawy JN places as England, Scotland, Japan, Australia and Holland. The museum appeals to genuine car buffs but there is something for everyone. Interesting displays like "The Wheels of Time" and '""Those Crazy Women Drivers' are guaranteed to generate enthusiastic response. Plans for owning their own 'automotive building is still in the future, but currently the museum is undergoing some changes. One is to reduce the 75 antique cars down to 45 1a order to create more room for prop displays. The pur- pose of this is to make the tours more authentic. The period props will enhance the two-level display areas according to the period in which a particular car was used. The museum is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays. The cost for adults is $2.50, Senior Citizens $2.00, Students $1.50 and children under 12 are $1.00. Family rates are available and group tours can be arranged also by contacting the museum.
