While here they visited relatives and friends. They enjoyed a day at Canada's Wonder- land. . Congratulations to Grant Thompson on the occasion of his 80th birthday. A surprise birthday party was held at the Neil Bailey's home on Sunday. Those in attendance were his three daughters and their families - Dr. and Mrs. Jack Marlow, Mr. and Mrs. John Marlow and Chris- topher, Mr. and Mrs. Brian Wilson all of Dundas, Ont- ario, Jane Marlow was un- able to attend but phoned with greetings from Sud- bury. Mr. and Mrs. Neil Werry and Joy, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Werry, Port Perry, Mr. and Mrs. Rob Mairs, Steven and Katie, Nestleton. Also present were Grant's two sisters from Beaverton - Mrs. Vera Warmington and Mrs. Alba Currie and a sister-in-law from Hamilton. Ruth's family also helped with the celebration - Mr. and Mrs. Jim Johnston, Peterborough, Mr. and Mrs. John Hohnston, Manotick, Mrs. Mary Naylor, Beaver- ton and Mrs. Grace Davis, Toronto. Howard Bailey phoned with special greet- ings Saturday evening from Germany. He finished his school year there on July 10th and iS now travelling with two Canadian friends throughout Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Holland, Belgium, France and England. He plans to fly home from London the second week in August. He reports a fantastic three months on his Student Ex- change Programme and recommends it highly to any student who ever has the opportunity to definitely take advantage of it. Charlie and Marie Primer of Hamilton, spent a week- end recently with Hector and May Shortridge and Jennie and Frank Bailey, Dr. Noel Chant of Van- couver, B.C. along with three of his four children visited Linda and Roy Bradburn and family and Harold and Eileen McLaughlin recently while his wife and other daughter visited relatives in Peterborough. Noel enjoyed very much touring this area and showing his family where he grew up and attended school. Those who went to school with Noel will be interested to know that he is now a heart surgeon in B.C. Congratulations and Best Wishes to Beth Hope, daughter of Mildred and Roy Hope and Victor Stewart who were married in pretty wedding in the United Church on Saturday after- noon. The reception was held at the C.E. Room. Pleased to report that Earl Bradburn returned home from Oshawa Hospital last Wednesday following gall bladder surgery. Hope your recovery continues as quickly as possible. Susan and Gordon Kelly, Leigh and Scott of Listowell, Laurie and Scott McLeod of Guelph attended both nights of the Tractor Pull and were guests of Gerald and Joyce Kelly and girls. Early Saturday morning Elaine Kelly left for her week long exchange with twenty-five other Girl Guides to Pennsylvania with Girl Scouts there. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Corden, Julie and Christie enjoyed Sunday with the Carl " Gilbank's at their cottage at Crowe Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Brown of Oshawa were mid- week visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Grant Thompson. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Mountjoy attended the marriage of their son, Paul at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Fennell Avenue, Hamilton with Judith Paull, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Paull on Saturday, July tenth. Others attending from this area included Bonnie Hudson and Wayne Fougere and boys, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Mountjoy, Mr. and 'Mrs. Murray Byers, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hoskin and a number of Paul's local school friends. The reception and dance was held at the Holiday Inn at Burlington. The happy couple will spend their honeymoon in Ganonoque, Quebec City and a lodge in Muskoka. On their return they will take up residence in Branmpton. Joint church services continue during the month of July to be held at the St. John's Anglican Church at their regular time of 9:30 a.m. This Sunday the guest speaker was Chaplin of Oshawa General Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Robertson of Unity Sask- atchewan, Mr. and Mrs. Harry McLaughlin of Nestle- ton were mid-week guests of Mrs. Roy Taylor. Mrs. Taylor spent a week with Mr. and Mrs. Anson Taylor at their Country Home at Walker's Point, Muskoka. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Watts of Iroquois Falls spent a few days with Kathleen's brother and his wife and her mother There were 15 tables at the Senior Citizens card party on Tuesday evening with the following winners - 1. Weir Swain On July 11 about 40 Bryans relatives held a family picnic at Kelly's Bay on Sturgeon Lake. Those attending were from Oshawa, Kirkfield, Fenelon Falls, Cameron and the Bob Bryans family from Blackstock. Weekend guests with Nancy and Bob were Joan and Merv Bayley, Caesarea whe boated there on Sat- urday. About 30 descendants of the late May Gaud and Morley Wilkins of Courtice recently held their 11th annual picnic at the farm of Nancy and Bob Bryans. The rain stopped just in time and an enjoyable time visiting and the younger ones playing ball. Guessing games were won by Larry Piper and Joanne Balson. Neil and Noreen Malcolm accompanied Howard and Eileen Malcolm to the Maritimes when Howard attended the Canadian Pork Congress held at Bridge- water , Nova Scotia. They toured Prince Edward Island and Quebec. Mr. and Mrs. John Stewart, Orillia were week- end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Grant Edgerton and girls. Scugog Island news by Mrs. Earl Reader The Annual Strawberry Supper on Wednesday as usual brought much pleasure when old friends and acquaintances met again and enjoyed a sumptuous meal with ideal weather to assist. At the first setting at 5:30, Mr. Jas Adam Sr. was surprised to receive con- gratulations for his 80th birthday. Later, when the ladies of the "Head" U.C.W. and all the diners sang "Happy Birthday' it was learned that Mrs. Ethel Freeman and little Todd Fitchett were also celebrat- ing their birthdays. Jack and Tillie Burnham are just about settled in their new Port Perry home. They are pleased to be near former Island neighbours, Mr. and Mrs. Alf Eden who, for many years, ran the store now owned by Joel Aldred. I'm sure this moving'is quite a task and change for Jack who has spent all his life on the Island and Tillie has much of hers here too. In a lifetime like this you accumulate many treasures. On Saturday the Institute ladies had a profitable day gathering up items for the auction next Saturday at the Community Hall. If you forgot, you may still leave yours with any of the ladies. On Sunday, Rev. Clarke's message applied to all as it was on the 'subject of 'appreciation' based on the lepers story in Luke where 10 lepers were healed by Jesus but only 1, a despised Samaritan, returned to give thanks. Next Sunday, Miss McLean will again take the service. As the choir is taking a rest, a group of 6 musicians from Prince Albert and Scugog is planning a treat for us for the next 2 Sundays prior to our August vacation. Please try to have your August donations in by the end of July. Mrs. Madeline Cawker will look after the little ones next Sunday so don't stay home because of the children.
