Firemen Convention in Cannington The Cannington Fire Fighters Association ann- ounced today they will host the 81st Annual Ontario Fire Fighters Association Con- vention to be held on the Civic Holiday Weekend, July' 30, 31, August 1 and 2, 1982. The Convention has been an annual event since the inception of the F.F.A.O. in 1899. It's purpose in those days was to exchange ideas as to the best techniques for fire fighting and to discuss the progress and welfare of volunteer fire fighters throughout the province of Ontario. It is interesting to note that some of the depart- ments active in those by- gone days are still members of the Association. They include Milton, Thorold, Mount Forest and Welland, to name just a few. The convention will host a province wide competition in fire fighters games such as ladder races, water ball, tug of war and other fine sports. The competiton is fierce. Each fire department will be | 'Celebrates 90th Birthday Mrs. Lottie Kersey celebrated her 90th birthday competing for prizes throughout the weekend. The event itself, will be held to the east of the Community Centre ball park area where campsites and playing fields have already been laid out. This area and to the south of said area will be serviced by both water and electricity. One can imagine the size of this venture whereas by the success of past conventions, 3,500 - 4,000 people often attend. The entire weekend is a time of good fellowship, re-newing old acquaintances making new friends, parades, competition and dances.
