Hvar Hall of Port Perry will be seeking a third straight term as chairman of the Durham Region District Health council when the organization holds its annual meeting June 24 in Whitby. A 67 year old Janetville grandmother and two men were ordered Wednesday to stand trial in county court in connection with a number of burglaries at cottages in the Port Perry, Caesarea and Sunderland area last summer. Margaret Evelyn Neil faces five counts of break, enter and theft, three counts of theft under $200; and N single counts of break-enter with intent to steal and theft over $200. Four other theft- related charges were with- drawn. John Gordon MacDonald, 24, of Caesarea was com- mitted to trial on a total of 19 charges -- 10 counts of theft under $200; eight break- enter, and theft, and posses- sion of stolen goods under $200. The judge issued arrest warrants for Roy Charles Neil and Orville Neil, both also of Janetville, when they failed to appear in court on similar charges. A single count of break and entering was withdrawn against Steven Woodcock, 21 of Janetville. A total of 90 charges were laid by Durham Region police and the OPP over the break-ins. The Health council acts as an advisory body on health and medical related issues to the provincial ministry of health. Mr. Hall said recently that in the coming year the emphasis for Durham Region will be the need for more nursing home beds, particularly in the Oshawa- Newcastle area of the Region where there is an immediate need for 40 more beds. He also said there likely will be emphasis this coming year on programs which promote the 'life-style' approach to improved health through such things as anti- smoking campaigns, nutrition, and other ways which individuals can maintain and improve their own health. On June 14, the Health council will be meeting at Durham College in Oshawa with newly appointed. provincial Health Minister Larry Grossman. The meeting is expected to be an airing of views and exchange of ideas.
