8 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, May 18, 1982 Seniors plan Wonderland trip by Marion King Club 101 met on April 28 with a good number of members and our guests, Stouffville Senior Citizen's Club. Ethel Irvine welcomed everyone. We sang O Canada with Win Philp at the piano, followed by One minute's silence in memory of Loren Stanton. The minutes were read by Irene Philip, our Secretary and adopted as read. May 27 will be our trip to Woodbine, June 16, the trip to Canada Wonderland, and the Con- vention will be August 10 and 11 in Sudbury. We had the Treasurer's report. The travel report and then the fine lucky door NK RCI HK prizes were drawn. Stouff- "ville Kitchen Band then entertained us with several musical numbers, readings, duets, and several sacred numbers. The programme was brought to a close with the beautiful "Now is the Hour"' - as social time was enjoyed. If you are one of the 4260 card holders at the library, the staff would like to see you check out as many books as possible before 9 P.M. this Friday, May 21. The library on Queen Street will be closing on May 21 and stay closed until Tuesday, June 1 as staff and volunteers undertake the job of moving to the new library building on Water Street. So, if the card holders have "checked out books during Greenbank UCW meet by Ruby Dusty The Greenbank U.C.W. met at the home of Helen Thomson for the May meet- ing. Helen opened the devotional with a reading "What Is A Mother". Ellie Speck read the scripture and Muriel Gibson read a pray for May. Helen, Ellie and Muriel gave a skit entitled "The Cat". Mary Jean Till, vice president, welcomed every- one and thanked the group for their devotional. The U.C.W. Purpose was repeat- ed. The Roll Call was answered by 'Your mother's maiden name and where she was born". The minutes and a thank you note from Doris Hill were read followed by the - treasurer's report. Nancy Dempsey and Norine Cook reported that a book case for the choir had been purchased and that Ted Cordner had made a beautiful job of refinishing it. Dot Hooker reported that a baby sitting service was ready for Mothers Day. A baseboard heater is needed. Members are reminded that our Bazaar £0 be held in the fall. It was agreed to purchasé yarn for those will- ing to do knitting. Marie Foster, representative to the Board of Stewards agreed to mention the cracks between the linoleum in the Sunday School Room and the church steps were in need of paint. Donations were made to the Salvation Army and the Manse Committee. The meeting was closed and a delicious lunch was served. this period, there will be fewer to pack in boxes for the move. There are some 19,000 books that will have to be moved, along with audio- visual equipment, files, desks, chairs and So on. But everything will be in place when the new library build- ing on Water Street is officially declared open during a special ceremony on Saturday, May 29. The opening ceremonies get underway at 1:00 p.m, and everyone is welcome to attend. Some of the official guests include MPP Bruce McCaffrey, minister of culture, Scugog Mayor Jerry Taylor, Library Board chair- man Chuck . Preston, members of the Library Board, and the many people who worked in so many ways to steer the building through the planning, fund raising and construction periods. So, if you are a card holder - at the library, check out some books before 9 P.M. this Friday, May 21.
