22 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed. May 5S, Ma ETN AS J ER ASR PPA APE SA NE A aa de at 1982 r #3, Ferdi Seagrave and area news by Marilyn Beacock Spring is such an invig- orating season. To watch the trees, the flowers and the lush green grass slowly awaken once again after a long winters rest and to feel the warmth of the sun beam- ing down on your face is enough to give the most lagging spirit a shot in the arm. It also should inspire in all of us the proper amount of reverence and appreciation for the wonders of nature and the beauty of our chang- ing seasons. Have you checked out the church basement lately? Well next time you do you'd better put on your shades because the new carpeting has finally been installed and does it look spiffy! Thanks of course to our number one local carpet installer Don Whyte and his helper for doing a super A- one job! Many of our Seagrave folks are very much aware of the problems that were associated with the ordering of this floor covering. We are pleased to report that Gary Patterson of Kawartha Carpet and Tile came to our rescue. This very pleasant and congenial gentleman met with our Good Neigh- bours Group and offered us a very satisfactory 5-year guarantee as well as an extremely generous cash allowance to compensate us for all the inconvenience that had been caused, even though the mistake had not been made by his firm and was not his responsibility to rectify. It is most refreshing to meet someone of Gary's calibre who goes that extra mile to ensure his customer's happiness and satisfaction. The next time I'm in the market for floor covering I'll be up to see Gary - hope you will too! In the meantime I think I'm going to nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize! The Nonquon Conservation Centre was certainly a bee- hive of activity on Saturday 1973-80 CHEVY & GMC TRUCK (Also '81 except F. Fender & F. Fender parts) as a large turn-out of Cubs and Scouts met to plant an estimated 3000 pine trees. Cubs and Scouts from Cann- ington, Sunderland, Port Perry and Seagrave were represented at this function. Birthday greetings go out to a couple of young men in the person of Brad Puckrin and Jack Short who dropped their annual donations in our Birthday box at church on Sunday. Our minister, Rev. Rodgers and the Seagrave congregation warmly wel- comed the following folks into our church family from other congregations - Mrs. Bonnie Guindon, Mrs. Karen Huestis, Mr. and Mrs. Elles- worth Kennedy, Mrs. Irene Manitius and Mrs. Heather Wray. We're happy to have you with us. There are some special dates to keep in mind: On Mothers Day, May 9, the Sacrament of Baptism will be observed. There will be no Sunday School on this Sun- day; May 16 the three young ladies who attended the Toc Alpha Conference in Toronto at Christmas will be the guest speakers and provide us with an insight into what kind of information they received at this Conference. I've heard these gals and they are terrific so be sure to be there. Sunday School will be combined with the church service for this special occasion; Registration will begin at 9:15 a.m. on May 6 at the Seagrave United Church for the annual Lindsay Presbyterial U.C.W. Region 1 Rally. A very special birthday wish to a beautiful little gir) who will be celebrating her special day on Sun. May 9. Miss Dana Lavereau will be taking a great big breath and blowing out her two big birthday candles. Happy birthday Honey! Attention all ladies - if you are missing any casserole dishes, pie plates, Tupper- ware etc. please check the rather large assortment that has accumulated in the church kitchen. Seagrave "Sunday School Anniversary will be cel- ebrated on May 30 at 11:00 a.m. Special guest speaker will be the Rey. Charles Kitney of Cannington. Congratulations to Mrs. Myrtie Stone who has recently been presented with her 26th great - grandchild, a beautiful wee daughter for Keith and Donna Rodd of Uxbridge. Mr. and Mrs. Don Beacock and boys went over to Uxbridge on Friday night to acquaint themselves with their new niece and cousin Miss Jacqueline Rodd. 1 tried my darndest to smuggle her home with me but just wasn't too success- ful. I'm going to try again though! Mr. and Mrs. Fred Puckrin were delighted to attend the wedding of Miss Pam Izatt and Mr. Bradley Oldham which was solemmized at the Pickering United Church on Saturday. "All interested parents of Scouts, Cubs and Beavers are urged to attend an Open General Group Committee Meeting on May 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the Seagrave United Church basement. Your hi 1to 5 Year Annual Interest Guaranteed Investment Certificates "Subject to Change without Notice." presence and support is urgently needed. Sincerest sympathy is extended to the family of the late Mrs. Monica Efford of Robinglade who passed away last week. Don and Marilyn Beacock and boys enjoyed having dinner with Mrs. Angela Dykeman, Derek and Darryl of Ball Point on Saturday evening. It seems as though bad health has been trailing everyone in the Cliff Short household this past winter. We're all hoping that with the advent of spring Cliff, Ruby and Gladys will begin to rapidly improve. Our youngest son and I were out for a bike ride on the 14th concession one day last week and I was appalled at the abundance of litter and garbage that was prominent along the ditches and roadside and. this problem is not a localized one by any means. It is prevalent on any roadway in the Region, and probably the entire province. What ever happened to having pride in our surroundings? Let's get our act together and put our garbage where it belongs - in the trash bin.
