The best time was completed by Scott Rankin a grade 7 student, who finished the puzzle in 1 minute, 20 seconds. A OI iS McPhail calls for watering rebate Brock Township mayor Al McPhail wants Durham Region 'to look into the possibility of giving home- owners a break for watering lawns. } Mayor McPhail raised the issue at Regional council last week stating that the combined water and sewer bill should not include the sewer charge for water that does not go back into the sewer system. The combined bill is -cal- culated by a formula based on water consumption. He said he knows of two homeowners in his munici- pality who may appeal their water bills this summer because of the policy. He suggested that some kind = of .. mathematical formula might be worked out to take into account the fact that watér used on lawns and gardens does not go' back into the sewer system. He said later the amount of money involved would be small, "but there is the principle of the thing." Finance committee chair- man John Aker was. not overly enthusiastic about the idea, noting there are about 60,000 residential water users in Durham Region. And it was later suggested that if each one got a few dollars rebate for lawn watering, the Region would have to recoup the revenues by hiking the water con- sumption rates. Mayor McPhail said he is not aware of any homeowner who has been successful in appealing a water-sewer bill for this reason. Councillor Aker said his committee "would take the suggestion and request for a study under advisement."
