April 14, 1982 -- 31 Youth group holds successful weekend by Ivan Parkinson The new youth group of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Port Perry held a very successful bazaar Sat. April 3, followed by a scrumptious Sunday brunch the next day. The Saturday bazaar in- cluded crafts, rummage sale, baked goods, book etc. The 50-50 draw was won by Linda George of Oshawa. Eight other draws included draws for a walkie talkie, a pool table and a ceramic beer stein. A profit of $920 (approx) will go to stereo and sports equipment for the youth group. The Sunday brunch saw 174 tickets sold with several people being turned away. Into this Sunday breakfast totally prepared by the youth 13-18 inclusive. A tremen- dous effort was given as evident in the beautifully set tables, with floral centre pieces and condiments, alternating frying pans for eggs and pancakes, a very busy kitchen staff accom- plished this with only three electric frying pans, a couple of skillets and three toasters. Tea and coffee were served at the tables. Proceeds from the Sunday brunch totalled $212 (approx.) THE UNITED CHURCH OF CANADA Rev. It is to be noted that:non- catholic youth are wel to join. Heading the group is organizer Earl Killingbeck, pres. Cathy Olliffe, vice pres. Tim Bouwmeester and treas. Doris Vanssen. Memembers of the group include Doris and Tony Vanssen, Cathy and Shawana Olliffe, Keith, lan and Julie Farmer, Danny and Karen Tomchishin, -- Sharon Andrews, Sharry Killingbeck, Marita and Tony Kersten, Pat and -Darren Frank, Alan, Tim and Mark Bouwmeester, Frank and Steve Balling, Lawrence Martens, Ann Hoogeveen, Nancy Witt- eveen, Veronica Kingston, Michelle Tytler and Cindy Preston. Too young to belong to the group but more than willing to pitch in was 12 year old Mike Kesten who attended to the steady flow of customers. The author of this article, being well aware of the serious problems many of the youth of this district are involved in, finds it most refreshing to know that this youth group is contributing in a positive fashion to the Port Perry District.
