We hope you enjoy life in our village. Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Hoskin were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs, Murray Hoskin of Port Perry to celebrate Lorne's birthday on Wed- nesday. Easter Sunday dinner + guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Kelly and family were Mr. and Mrs. David Petrie, Andrew, Allan and David; Mrs. Reg Boundey of Rort Perry; Mark, Rob and Cheryl Graham of Purple Hill. Miss Patti Hoskin of Peter- borough was Friday evening guest of her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Hoskin. OBITUARY Mabel Mary McMullen Mabel Mary McMullen a highly respected citizen passed away March 24, 1982 at Port Perry Community Hospital in her 74th year. She was born in Cart- wright Township, September 30, 1908, daughter of the late Wesley Campbell and - the late Ada Rowan. She received her education at Cedardale Public School, Janetville Continuation School and Lindsay Col legiate Institute. She married Howard McMullen September 29, 1928 and they farmed two miles gouth of Yelverton, with Howard's parents until 1965, at which time they moved to Port Perry where she lived until her death. Mabel 'was a member of Lotus "and Cadmus United Churches until they closed, then became a member of Yelverton United Church and remained a faithful member of the Yelverton U.C.W. She attended Port Perry United Church and was an active U.C.W. member - Dorcas Unit, and also belonged to Maybelle Rebekah Lodge No.348 in . Port Perry and Janetville L.0.B.A. No.1012. She is survived by her husband Howard, daughters Marion, Mrs. Edmunds of Peterborough and Beth, Mrs. Bill Bradley of Bow- manville. It is good to hear that Mrs. Barb Parrinder and Mrs. Mae Leask are out of hospital and we wish them improved health. Special get-well wishes go out to Mr. Rene Thiebaud, who is recovering from heart surgery in Oshawa General Hospital. Communion Service will be held on Sunday, April 19, in the Myrtle United Church. Confirmation classes begin on April 19th, following the 10:30 service. 'Happy Birthday" to Mrs. Hazel McCullock who will . celebrate her birthday on April 18th. great grandchildren. Loving sister of Jean Bonyun of Midland, Evelyn Bonney of Kingston, Nova Scotia, Grant Campbell of Nestleton and the late Marion Camp- bell. Mabel was a loving and devoted wife, a cherished mother, a very dear Grand- mother and great Grand- mother, an affectionate sister and was dearly loved by a host of friends, relatives and neighbours and a devoted member of the family of God. Mabel was a very fine homemaker and a great lover of nature and will always be remembered by her pleasant smile and cheerful disposition; her genuine concern for other people; and her sharing of these fine traits with all she came in contact with. Every life touched by hers is a great deal richer. Funeral service was held Saturday, March 27, 2 P.M. at the McDermott- Panabaker Chapel, Port Perry. The service was con- ducted by Rev. Arthur Rodgers and assisted by Rev. Don Tansley with interment at Nestleton United Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ross Edmunds, Rick Edmunds, Brian Tisdale, Brian Gray, Bob Brinkman and Bill MacDonald. Flower bearers were Fred Hacker, Ray Lobban, Rick Campbell, Rod Campbell, Ken Bateman, Dave Brunton and Bill Hopkins. The many floral arrange- ments and charitable donations were an indication of the high esteem in which Mabel was held and were greatly appreciated by the family. Mr. and Mrs. George Wolfe returned from a very enjoyable winter holiday in Destin Florida. Saturday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Hoskin were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Davis of Solin. Weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. George Wolfe were Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Wolfe of Montebello, Quebec, On Tuesday April 6th the 4-H group held their first meeting about '"More Out- door Living" in the Town Hall. Our leaders helped the club with electing the president, vice-president, treasurer, secretary and press reporter. They then explained about making plaster. castings of animal footprints. They also helped the members in making the negative footprint which is a mirror image of the positive footprint. All the members are responsible for making a positive print at home for the next meeting which is on April 13th. Easter day guests of Mr. and Mrs. George Wolfe were Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Wolfe, Montebello, Quebec; Mr. and Mrs. Park Toronto, and Mr. and Mrs. John Wolfe, Toronto. The High School students are busy planning their Annual Formal which they hope that many former students and communtiy members will attend. This year the Formal is on the 24th of April. On Wednesday evening Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Wright, Mr. Don Wright, and Mrs. Cheryl DeJong attended the Services at Convocation Hall at University of Toronto when Miss Leslie Wright received her call to the Bar. Leslie is currently working with the law firm Rachlin and Wolfson, Toronto. Con- gratulations Leslie on this great achievement! Mr. Lorne Hoskin and Mrs. Jean Trewin had a night on. the town last Thursday when they had dinner at Steve's Steakhouse and enjoyed the movie "On Golden Pond' in Oshawa. Mr. and Mrs. Hector Short- ridge, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Shortridge and Stephanie were Sunday guests of Paul and Marg (Fielder) Chalmers and Billie of Fen- elon Falls. The first meeting of the Blackstock 3 and 4 4-H group was held on Saturday with only 5 members present. this group has two rookie leaders, Miss Caroline Carnaghan and Mrs. Gail Sleep. Our president is Kelly McLaughlin, Vice-President- Marilyn Green, Secretary- Lynn McLaughlin and Press Secretary-Elizabeth Kelly. We were shown how to make animal tracks and talked about outings. This club looks like a really interesting one, for both sexes, and everyone is welcome. Our next meeting is on April 17th, at 9:30 in the Town Hall. Robert and Cindy Van- Camp have returned home from an enjoyable holiday to Puerto Rico which Robert had won through Purina Feeds. Little Katie spent the two weeks with both sets of grandparents while her parents were away. On Sunday morning, Mr. and Mrs. Neil Malcolm, Mr. and Mrs. Jamie Malcolm, Brennan and Alaina, Mr. and Mrs. David Kellogg, Welcome, Mrs. Louella Cook, Brooklin all attended the Dedication Service of Jorden, infant son of Joy and Gord Malcolm. After the service all returned to Mal- mont Farms when Neil and Noreen hosted a family dinner party in Jorden's Honour. Patti Bryans and Rick Alpe spent the weekend with his parents Carmella and Arturo Alpe, Guelph. Mr. and Mrs. George Bryant and family hosted a family gathering on Easter Sunday when members of the Ormiston family gathered. Nancy and Bob Bryans and Gord and Shirley Gettins, Caesarea attended a retirement party for Alf Tomchishon, Port Perry, held at his daughter's home, Gord and Marlene Robinson, Richmond Hill. The Senior Citizen's Euchre Party was held on Tuesday with 13 tables and the following results: 1. Percy VanCamp -87; 2. Maxine Brock-82; 3. Roy Werry-78; 4. Bessie Spencer- 77; 5. Myrtle Alsop-77; 6.Bill Werry-76; Norman Rohrer- Low. The draws were won by: 1. Myrtle Gimblett; 2. Edith Burgess; and 3. Dorothy McDiamid. Sunday supper guests of Nancy and Bob Bryans, and Steve were Scott and Karen Essery, Courtice, and Lorinda Jackson of Caesarea. The Annual Blackstock Curling Club Banquet was held on Thursday, April 8 at the Blackstock Recreation Centre. A warm welcome was extended by President Ted Kemp followed by Grace said by Merrill VanCamp. Approximately one hundred curlers and their friends enjoyed a roast beef dinner prepared by the O.N.O. ladies. The Customary thanks to the ladies was extended by Neil Mec- Laughlin. In his remarks President Ted extended thanks to the executive to the Icemakers for their fine work all season and all the curlers. The Treasurers report was given by Gerald kelly. Ladies President Mary Mackie reviewed the ladies schedules and activities. She pointed out that the money from the raffle had been used to buy a measurer for the Club. She then thanked all her executive and receited a poem entitled "The Curler". Helen Green aided in pre- senting the prizes won by: First-Elaine Bailey, Sharon Wilson, Lisa Kristensen and Ruby VanCamp; 2nd-Helen Green, Mary Mackie, Pat Millson, and Carol Gray; 3rd-Wendy Bentley, Shirley Holliday, Doris Clarke, and Pat Millson; 4th-Pat Fletcher, Edith McLaughlin, Joan Grove and Eileen Mc- Laughlin. Nancy and hr 5Year Annual Interest Gary "Subject to Change without Notice." McConnell were next report- ing the Mixed activities. They extended appreciation to Thompsons Village Market for a generous donation. The winners were 1st-Harold and Eileen McLaughlin, and George and Marilyn Cochrane; 2nd- Gerald and Joyce Kelly and Lawrence and Linda McLaughlin; 3rd-Dave and . Ingrid Larmer and Cliff and Evelyn Trapp. Cam Porter called Merlin Suggitt to present his trophy to the mens winners Brian Hamilton, Keith VanCamp, Tim Cochrane, and Dan Mahar. 2nd-Roy McLaughlin, Dale Van- Camp, Barry Swain, Jim Byers. 3rd-Keith Goble, Robert Archer, Herb Vine, Grant McLaughlin, Reg Hughes. Guest speaker of the evening were John and Marion Rodway who showed pictures and interesting souvenirs of their one-year exchange to Australia.
