J.J. Gibson, former reeve of Port Perry and warden of Ontario County celebrated his 80th birthday, March 27, with more than 100 friends and relatives at his home in Port Perry. Gibson celebrate his 80th birthday. J.J. was born March 26, 1902 in Victoria County. He enjoyed considerable success as a businessman and municipal politician, first as a councillor in Port Perry and then as reeve of this community for 12 years from 1956 to 1968. He served one term in the prestigious office of Warden of Ontario County. . The family was especially pleased that son Bill was able to attend the birthday party. He suffered serious injuries in a construction accident three years ago and is now in a wheel chair. Heron The Brooklin Horticulture members, of whom several from Ashburn are included, enjoyed a real treat on March 24th when Mr. William Bradburn of Oshawa showed beautiful slides of wild flowers; several commented they had no idea there were so many different wild flowers grow- ing and not too far from home. , A very interesting date to look forward to and to mark on your calendar is May the 4th at 8 p.m. There is to be a fashion show and several other special things included. The evening is called "spring into summer, neutical and nice' and will be held at the Thunderbird golf club. Several stores from Port Perry will be involved and an oil painting will be given for a door prize. "This is all sponsored by the Kirk Guild. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Fisher and Mrs. Evelyn Lynde have enjoyed a trip to Florida where they visited with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lynde at Alcoa and Mrs. Dorothy Tunney of Kississimee and PORT PERRY 'STAR -- Wed. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rowe and daughter Penny of Winnipeg spent last week at their parents home Mr. and Mrs. E. Heron. Palm Sunday was well recognized last Sunday morning when the Jr. and Sr. choir joined by several of the congregation and led by Rev. McEntyre, marched around the church. waving palm branches while singing "Hosanna Loud Hosanna. The junior choir sang "I'll be a Sunbeam' and the sr. choir sang "He's still the King of Kings" during the service. Rev. McEntyres message was "Is Faith ecstasy or Agony?"
