ai | { { if 4 | { Port Perry chef Marcel Neyroud has spent all his working life in the kitchen. His dedication and long service to the industry was rewarded last week when he received a Master Culinary Arts award from the Escoff- ier Club of Toronto, an asso- ciation of about 200 executive chefs from across Ontario. This is the first time the Club has presented these awards and Mr. Neyroud was one of just 40 chefs = | honoured at a gala reception held February 22 at the Yorkville Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto. Mr. Neyroud says the award has special signifi cance for him because it was presented by his peers who work in the better hotels and restaurants of the province. He began his career at age 16 in his native Switzerland, some 35 years ago, serving an apprenticeship for two and a half years. He worked in restaurants on the Contin- ent before coming to Canada 25 years ago. Since then he has been a chef with C.P. Hotels, the Inn on the Park, Toronto, and Cara Foods airline services. For the past 11 years, he has operated his own rest- aurant business at Conway Gardens on Highway 7A in _Port Perry. Although he sold the business February 1, to Doug and Joan White of Bramalea, Mr. Neyroud will continue to work for the time being in an advisory capacity at Conway Gardens. He believes the secrets to being successful executive chef are dedication, strong interest, and maintaining high standards. It was a proud moment last week for Marcel Neyroud of Port Perry who was presented with an award for excellence by the Escoffier Club, an organization of top chefs in Canada. Mr. Neyroud has been a chef for 35 years. He received the award at a reception in Toronto.
