20 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed. February 17, 1982 - Volleyball season concludes for two Cornish teams On Wed. Feb. 10, the Junior Girls Volleyball team from R.H. Cornish travelled to Scott Central P.S. for the Final Tourn- ament in the Central Dur- ham Area. The girls played very well, but unfortunately, they were defeated by Scott Central P.S., the winners of the Championship Game, and were defeated by Cannington P.S., the winners of the Consolation Game. The girls showed good sportsmanship during all the games and demonstrated skills learned throughout the season. Lori Carnochan, especially, showed very good playing skills all day. Boys Team The R.H. Cornish P.S. Junior boys volleyball team * travelled to Scott Central Public School to participate in the final volleyball tourn- ament. The tournament was based on an elimination-- format with our first set of games against the strong Sunder- land team who later went on to win the tournament championship. Our boys gave Sunderland some tough competition and both teams showed good skills and team effort. The boys continued to play very well and went on to become the Consolation Winners by beating the Beaverton team two games and winning in the final against Prince Albert, taking the first two closely fought games. The boys are to be con- gratulated on how well they played in the tournament working as a team and utilizing their skills which have shown good develop- ment, particularly in this final tournament. Special mention goes out to Warren Geer who's strong serving won many points for the Cornish team and to Joey Jackman and Jeff Oke for their consistant, strong play- ing. On Tuesday, February 2, R.H. Cornish hosted a Junir Boys Invitational Volleyball Tournament for 8 teams in the Central Durham Area. The tournament ran from 3:30 - 6:30 p.m. The boys all demonstrated good skills on the court. The final standings were: - Sunderland, P.S. - Scott Central P.S. - Prince Albert-Raglan P.S. - R.H. Cornish B Team - Goodwood P.S., Cartwright P.S. - R.H. Cornish A Team - Greenbank P.S. On Wednesday, February 3, after school, R.H. Cornish hosted a Junior Girls Invita- tional Volleyball Tourn- ament for 8 teams. Even with the snowy weather conditions, all teams managed to arrive and they played many close games. The final standings were: - Sunderland P.S. - Scott Central P.S. - Thorah P.S. - Goodwood P.S. - Greenbank P.S., wright P.S. - R.H. Cornish P.S., Prince Albert P.S. Cart- Juniors win by Wendy Burton On Sat. Jan. 30, Sportsland Juniors travelled to Oak- * wood to play Mariposa and came up on the winning end. The score was 7 to 3 for Sportsland Juniors. Scoring for Port Perry was Allyson Mitchell 1 goal, Stephanie Butt 2 goals, and Kelley Raines 4 goals. Assists go to Tracy Olsen 1, Kelly Storry 1, Lisa Canning 1 and Jo-Anne Connors 2. On Sat. Feb. 6, Lindsay travelled to Port Perry for the final game in regular season play. Lindsay wanted a win as much as the Sportsland Juniors and the game ended in a 'tie. It was a good game all round.
