Marketing boards topic for discussion at Durham Ag. meeting The Durham Region Federation of Agriculture are planning a special meeting for Tuesday, February 23, starting at 8:00 p.m. The meeting which will be held at the Legion Hall in Port Perry 'will feature a panel discussion on the pros and cons of marketing boards, quotas and open market systems. A number of farmers in- volved in the production of various agricultural commodities will be partici- pating. Some of those in- volved favour supply management, some favour a marketing board with no quotas, but the ability to negotiate price while others favour electronic marketing type systems. So often we hear the term, marketing board, used and this is associated with quotas College courses It is expected that 1,500 farmers of Eastern Ontario will take the opportunity to attend a series of programs at Kemptville College during the week of February 15-20, 1982. Last year 1,500 farmers attended. Registration fees range from $3.00 to $10.00 per person, per session, with most being $6.00 per person. Meals and proceedings are included in the registration fee. No advance registration is required for any of the programs. and supply management. The local branch of the Fed- eration felt it would be very worthwhile to discuss a number of alternatives and how they work. All farmers and interested people are invited to attend this special meeting on the 23rd. The 1982 Ontario Farm Adjustment Assistance Pro- gram was anndunced in early January. Response to the Program in Durham County has been slow to date. Under the Program, farmers who meet certain eligibility criteria can receive assistance for 1982 with regards to their floating rate interest credit. There are three options open to the farm, who might qualify: 1. A deferral of interest by the bank on bank loans for a period of up to six months. 2.
