2 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed. February 10, 1982 Marg Wilbur elected to executive at NDP leadership convention Marg Wilbur of Scugog Township has been elected to the provincial executive of the Ontario New Democratic Party. Mrs. Wilbur, a long time party stalwart in Scugog and Durham, was one of 15 executive members elected at large at the leadership convention held in Toronto over the weekend. It marks the first time she has been elected to the provincial executive and she says she will serve as a liason between NDP riding associations in the Durham area and the provincial executive. Mrs. Wilbur currently is president of the NDP area council, which is made up of the five riding associations in the Durham area. She has worked for many years with the NDP association in Scugog and carried the party banner in the York Durham riding in the provincial election last March. Commenting on the results of the leadership convention held in Toronto, Mrs. Wilbur said she found things "very encouraging." She said that support for the party in Ontario is grow- ing after the poor showing in last March's election, and she noted that the more than 2000 voting delegates DR. "It was a tremendous convention. We are very encouraged by what happened," she said. The voting delegates, of course, gave Bob Rae an overwhelming first ballot victory with Toronto MPP Richard Johnston and Port Arthur MPP Jim Foulds placing second and third. Mr. Rae is currently a federal MP from Toronto and the NDP finance critic in the House of Commons. He had been the favourite to win the provincial leader- ship and take over from Michael Cassidy who will remain for the time being in the legislature. Mrs. Wilbur said the provincial executive will meet February 20 and one of the main items for discussion will be the options available to get a seat in the Legislature for Mr. Rae. Doctors meetings (From pagel) Health Minister Dennis Timbrell says "we are appalled that some doctors are ready to use their patients as hostages before their contract has expired with OHIP and while negotiations are in the first stage." The statement says the government has offered the OMA a contract which would give the average full time physician in Ontario a net of $10,190 increase, which MANUFACTURING & CONTRACTING Durham Rd. 8 & Simcoe St. PORT PERRY, ONTARIO SAVE NOW = == Eh ER: GN ER GE GS EE GE BN EI ED SE EE GS GS ED ED GS) 5 GF ES Ean a. The OMA has requested a two year catch-up increase of 31 per cent, or $54,000, according to the statement from the Health Ministry. The OMA has maintained that physicians' salaries in Ontario are falling far behind what their counter- parts receive in other provinces such as Alberta. The Health Ministry state- ment notes that the figures cited are mathematical averages calculated by dividing the number of doctors in full time practice into the amount paid by OHIP and the Workmens Compensation Board for medical services. But toblame an increase in the purchase price of the Star entirely on the Post Office would be unfair. Unfortunately rising costs for production, supplies and wages all contri- butetotheneedtoincreaserates. We regret the increases, but effective Monday, March 1, 1982 a single copy of the Star will cost 35 cents; subscriptions in Canada willbe $15.00; and U.S.A. or foreign subscrip- tions will cost $45.00 per year. The Star will honour all existing sub- scriptions until they come up for renewal, and anyone wishing to renew subscriptions prior to Friday, February 26 may do so for oneyear at the presentrate. & HEARING AID CENTRE 28 Water St. (Lakeview Plaza) Port Perry - 985-9388 FORALL YOUR OPTICAL NEEDS!
