Six members of the Black Hawk squad are from the Port Perry area: Jim Bur- nett, Peter Morris, Garnet Warriner, Bob Bradbury, Gary Geer and Jerry Luke. This will be the first time the world tournament has been held in Canada and the first time the Black Hawks have competed in the event. The team is now gearing up for the competition with tournament play and exhibit- ion games against some of the tougher oldtimers clubs. There will be 44 teams from Ontario and inter- national representation is expected from the United States, Finland and other European countries. Pre- vious World Cups have been hosted by Amsterdam, Tokyo, Zurich, Copenhagen, Helsinki and Edinburgh. The teams will be seeded into eight divisions and each team will be guaranteed three games starting Feb- ruary 15. Oldtimer hockey enjoys an immense popularity. The cut-off age is- 35, and slap shots and body checking are banned. However, in the heat of competition, the body con- tact rule sometimes is for- gotten. And anyone who thinks . oldtimers hockey is a bunch of guys with pot bellies out for a friendly skate is mis- taken. Many of the players work hard off the ice to. stay in shape, and while the pace may be a few steps slower, the level of skill on the ice is high.
