Doug Williams was attempting to back the truck up a steep driveway to bring heating oil to a home when the right back wheels went off the driveway and the truck slid into a ditch and rolled over. Fearing a possible explo- sion, Mr. Williams scram- bled out through a window on the .passenger side of the truck. The Scugog Fire depart- ment was called to the scene and the truck was pulled from the ditch after the oil had been pumped into a second tank truck. There was no leakage of oil as a' result of the accident. Damage to the truck was expected to be fairly extensive. Durham Police were called to the scene, but an officer said no charges were laid. The truck is owned by Hygrade Fuels of Port Perry. . Police and fir depts. have quiet Christmas Scugog Township resi- dents enjoyed one of the safest and quietest Christ- mas holidays in many years with Police and Fire depart- ments reporting very few emergency calls. A spokesman for Durham Region Police said there were no serious incidents or car accidents, and the Whitby OPP reports just a couple of minor accidents on the provincial highways. A single car' accident on Sunday about a mile north of Port Perry on Regional Road 2 resulted in minor injuries. Deborah Winder was attempting to pass another car when her car went off the road and over-turned. A spokesman for the Scugog Fire department in Caesarea said there were no calls over the Christmas weekend and the Port Perry department responded to one call Sunday for a chimney fire at a residence northwest of Greenbank. There were no injuries and minimal damage. EMMERSON INSURANCE BROKERSLTD. willbe -- CLOSED -- for New Year's holiday Thursday, December 31st-12 Noon until Monday, January 4th -9:00 AM.
