With the coming of the snow last week, the realizat- ion that Christmas is fast approaching has strutk most of us. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Gibson spent the weekend -in King ston as guests of their daughter, Eleanor at Queen's University. Wednesday afternoon guests of Mr. and Mrs. Grant Thompson were his two sisters, Mrs. Vera Warming-. ton and Mrs. Alba Currie, both of Beaverton. Also, last Wednesday morning, students from Port High travelled to R.H. Cornish to perform a play called 'The Mystical Road," written by Mike Stokes. This play will also be performed for the children of Mother Teresa's school in Markham on Monday morning, December 21. Congratula- tions for a successful play. On Friday, December 18, there was a sock hop in the gym. Lots of Rebel spirit was shown as many students participated in the hop. Special thanks to Anand Maharaj for doing the music. Also on 'Friday, the first edition of the school news- paper, The Port High Rebellion was published. The paper sold for 15 cents and consisted of everything from Dear Crabby to a special note written from one student to anothér. Just a reminder to the students that exams commence January 21. That leaves almost four weeks left for study. P.P.H.S. will be loosing a phys-ed teacher; favoured by all. Mr. Jones will be leaving Port High to return to Perth, Australia to continue with his teaching after a 6 month tour of the States. At the United Church on Sunday morning Robert Gordon infant son of Brad and Debbie Curle was received into the congrega- tion. The Ladies' 'Choir and the regular choir each sang an anthem. The topic of Rev. John Smith's sermon was "Concerning This Child." Next Sunday morning the Christmas service will be held at the regular hour of 10 AM. and in the evening at 7:30, the Sunday School Candlelight Service will be held. Then on Christmas Eve at 7:30 P.M. the annual Choral Service will be held. The afternoon unit of the U.C.W. was held at the home of Aileen Byers on Tuesday, December 8 at 1:15. Dessert of mince pie and ice-cream and tea put everyone in a festive mood and was enjoy- ed by 17 ladies. Aileen began by reading a poem "A Test." The minutes of the last meet- ing were read by Audrey Wright. The Hospital Tea was announced. Gifts for shut-ins and cookies for the candlelighting service were arranged. The new unit leader is to be Jean Adams, the secretary and treasurer to remain the same. The Worship was taken by Flora Samells using two carols, Hark the Herald Angels Sing and Joy to the World. Joan Grove very capably accompanied us on 'the accordian 'and later 'played several selections. The scripture was the Christmas Story from Luke's gospel with timely Blackstock and area news comments- on gifts and not the money value. Offering taken and dedicated the programme consisted of readings, a skit, and a duet by Thelma and Jean accompanied by a tape with Alan Ferguson on the piano. Each contributed to make a fine Christmas program. Aileen brought the meeting to a close with a benediction. Blackstock Square Dancers held their Christmas Dance on Fri., Dec. 11 with nearly perfect attendance. All had a good time due to the extra efforts put on by our callers Carolyn and Glenn Dowsan an added treat was that one of our group with extra talent Albert Harper, delighted us all with several comic songs in the George Formby style, accompanied on the piano by his wife Lillian.
