The Port Perry MoJacks continue to experience the mid season blues as they came up with their second dreadful performance in a row at the Scugog Arena Sunday evening. In a game which at times looked more like roller derby on ice, the MoJacks were pasted 9-1 by the Lakefield Chiefs. The previous Sunday MoJacks were drubbed 8-4 MoJacks captain and leading scorer Todd Wilbur raises stick in jubilation after his goal gave the team an early 1-0 lead over the Lakefield Chiefs Sunday evening at the Scugog Arena. Brian Mikkelsen [17] and Tim Thompson had a hand in the play. But that by the Lindsay Muskies. Aside from a brief flourish in the opening minutes of the game and other late in the second period, the MoJacks could do nothing right. Even goalie Clay Lovering, who usually turns in 'a gritty performance between the pipes, had an off night and was the victim of more than one soft goal. It is hard to believe this is the same team which a month ago was winning hockey games and scoring a lot of goals in the process. However, a couple of bad games in a row do make a season, and if a team is going to have a slump, this is probably the "best" time of the schedule to have it. The MoJacks have proved on numerous occasions so far id ii LLU UH A ee this season that they are a much better team than they showed the last two games. Against the Chiefs on Sunday night, MoJacks actually jumped off to a quick start, buzzing around in the Lakefield zone with some good passing and tough checking in the corners. It paid off at 5:50 of the first when MoJacks took the lead. Tim Thompson battled behind the net, came up with the puck and fed it in front where Todd Wilbur slapped it behind goalie Jim Gillam. Brian Mikkelsen also drew an assist on the play: Both teams were doing some -clearr hitting in the early stages of the game, but by the mid-point of the first, the sticks and elbows began goal was all MoJacks had to cheer about as it was downhill from there as the team fell apart and watched as the Chiefs went to score nine unanswered goals. a ; Pee Wees win grand championship by Tom Dean On December 12th and 13th, the Port Perry Legion Pee Wee's played in the Oak Ridges Christmas tourn- ament. In the first game which ended in a 5 - 1 victory for Port, goals were scored by Dave Burnett with 2, and singles going to Brad Menzies, Steve Durham and David Culbert. Assists were awarded to Bobby Goble with 2, and singles for John Harman, and that took care of Oak Ridges. x In the second game against Markham, Port again came up on top with a score of 3 - 2. Goals were scored by Steve Durham with 2, assisted by Andrew Steele and Steve Durham, with the other one from Dave Burnett assisted by Warren Geer and Scott Feasby, that took care of Markham. In the third game, it was a bit of a runaway when Port Perry " defeated Richmond Hill by a score of 7 - 0. Goals in this match were scored by John Harman and Dave Burnett each having 2, and singles going to Steve Durham, Brad Menzies, and Rob Baker. Assists were awarded to. Brad Menzies and John Lally with' 2 each, and singles going to Andrew Stale, Bobby Goble, Rob Baker, Mark Barkey, Warren Geer, John Harman, and David Culbert, that Yiapped it up for Richmond "By now, Port Perry had won the Championship, and went on to play a fourth game in which they beat Sutton by a score of 4 - 3 for . the Grand Championship. In this final game, scoring for Port was John Harman having 2, and Steve Durham and John Lally both having singles. Assists were handed . 'out to Brad Menzies and Bobby Goble, with Dave Burnett having two. Every team member showed a strong effort and it showed up in the end. Out- standing efforts were shown by Port Perry's two goal- tenders, Steve Whalen and Kevin Cearns. Congratula- tions to all of the team, with special honourable mentions - going out to the four coaches, Jim Burnett, Ted Culbert, Gary ' Geer, and John Harman ; MolJacks woes continue in9-1 loss to go up and there was a series of double minor penalties. At 17:48, Jamie Bird tangled with Rob Gilders and both were tossed from the game. The, loss of Bird seemed to affect the MoJacks as he had been playing a strong game and also his absence meant a lot of line juggling for coach Don McBeth. At 19:25, Lakefield tied the score when Peter Krukert hit the corner behind Lovering. Play slowed down in the second and at 5:37, -the Chiefs went ahead for good when Rodd Taylor snapped a shot from in front of Lovering while MoJack Dave Canning was off for charging. Less than two minutes later, the Chiefs went ahead 3-1 on a high shot by Krukert from about 10 feet out. Although * MoJaeks were struggling at this point, they still were not out of the contest. However, Greg Coyle made it 4-1 for the Chiefs at 13:19 when Lovering got caught out of the net chasing a' loose puck and was not able to scramble back in time to prevent the score. ! Late in the second, the Chiefs took a series of penalties, including a double minor to Darryl Fitzgerald. MoJacks put on the pressure but were unable to make any of their shots count, and an elbowing penalty to Charlie Brown squared the man- * power situation, The third period belonged completely to the. Chiefs as they scored. five more goals and players from both teams - were guilty of numerous high sticking and slashing 'infractions. Lovering faced 40 shots in the Port Perry goal while .Gillam was tested just 24 times and many of these were easy shots from long range. * Possibley the lack of sharpness on the part of the MoJacks is due to the fact they have played just two games in the past two weeks, and the iext game is not until this Sunday night, December 20, when the Uxbridge Bruins pay a visit to the Scugog Arena, This will be the MoJacks annual Christmas Family Night with plenty of special features for the fans. And if the last meeting between 'Port Perry. and Uxbridge is any indication, it may be a pretty good hockey game. When the two teams tangled November 13, in Uxbridge, the game ended in an 8-8 draw, with the out- come in doubt right down to the final whistle, - Like the MoJacks, the Bruins have been struggling lately, so both teams will be out to snap their slumps and get back into the win column. Face-off this Sunday is . T30PM
