Port picked up only one penalty of the 5 that were assessed. The home opener was Friday October the 30th with Uxbridge as our opponents. The home town crew were up for this one and thoroughly trounced the visitors 8 to 1. Scoring in this one sided affair were. Rob Brown and Jamie Menzies with 2 goals and an assist each. A goal and an assist each to Mike Gibson, Rob Jamieson, single markers to Craig Venning and Stephen Connors. Danny Vernon picked up a pair of assists and Calvin Brewster, Tim Allsopp and Chris Skura each had single assists. Mark Kendall and Stacey Ballingall played well between the pipes. Game number three saw Stouffville back on Ports turf for a rematch but what a different story. The Stones came away with decisive 6-1 victory. This was an excellent game and truly a team effort. Scoring for the Stones saw Tim Allsopp pick up 2 goals both off passes by Rob Jamieson and Craig Venning. Stephen Connors picked up one unassisted goal and another off a pass from Rob Jamieson. Single goals were credited to Jamieson again and Rob Brown. Well Done Team. The George Stone Pee Wees are indeed very fortunate in having an excellent coaching staff once again and we are pleased to have Paul Van Camp and Dave Obee as coaches. Second row, left, Mr. Port Perry High School Sports by Kevin Harris Basketball The Port Perry High School junior and midget girls basketball teams hosted Cartwright last Friday, November 6. The juniors and midgets both came away with victories. Midgets The midget squad was behind throughout most of the contest. Cartwright jumped out to a 4-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Rebels came back strongly in the second period to gain a lead of 14-11. The team fell behind again in the third quarter. Port showed themselves as a comeback team. The team was losing by four points with three minutes remaining.» The girls came back though with strong effort. They fought back courageously and with - thirty seconds remaining in the fourth quarter the Rebels tied the score. The game went into overtime. Cartwright again looked as if they were in control, but - only to see their lead dwindle away by Port scores. The © ECONOMY COMPACT STANDARD & FULL SIZE game went into its second overtime. Port finally kept control of the game and went on to defeat Cartwright 36-33 in double overtime. The team played very well in the contest. Port was in foul trouble throughout the game. Janice Jackman fouled out in the fourth quarter after playing a good game and scoring 4 points. Heidi Spannbauer played an exceptional game scoring her season high 17 points. Karen Tomchishen who ended the game with 2 points had a very well played game defensively. i 'Kelly Raines sat out most of the fourth quarter with four fouls. She went back into the game as a forward and made key foul shots in the overtimes. She comple- ted the marathon with 6 points. Laura Tremblay had a strong defensive game and contributed a point to the score board. When the team got into trouble the bench strength showed. Gerry MacDonald played well in the clutch as she subed in for Janice Jackman. Judy Brinkman had 5 while Jackie Abraham and Shawn Muir contributed 4 points each. The junior and senior girls basketball teams beat Bowmanville last week. The Senior girls basket- ball team defeated Bowman- ville last Wednesday 54-44. The team played well in the contest. Barb Elliott scored an amazing 29 points as Jennifer Simmonds "hooped in 14 points. The Seniors also played in a tournament on Saturday, November 7. The team was beaten by Wexford a Toronto school in the first round. Port then went on to trounce Winston Churchill High School.: In the finals of the consolation round Port lost to a strong Central squad. ~ Volleyball The boys seniof" volleyball team played at Durham College last week in the L.0.S.S.A. tournament. December 4, 1981 to: & Ontario Artwork Submissions invited ~~ forthe Ontario Government Building OSHAWA The Ministry of Government Services, Art Advisory Committee, invites artists in the Regional Municipality of Durham, and Peterborough, Northumberland and Victoria Counties, to participate in an open competition for artworks which will be considered for commission and eventual placement in the Ontario Government There are four areas of competition: = COMPETITION 1-A 3-dimensional work for the main atrium floor space COMPETITION 2-A 3-dimensional work at the ceiling of R the atrium space COMPETITION 3-A total of five 2-dimensional artworks in any medium. Maximum size: 3,700 mm (12'2") wide, by 2,100 mm (6'11") high. COMPETITION 4-A total of six 2-dimensional artworks in any medium. Maximum size: 1,800 mm (5"11") wide x 2,400 mm (7'11") high.
