hd LET AA AL Mad i Salar 32-- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed., November 4, 1981 Teachers get first hand look at the computor age week and how the computer has great potential for use as a teaching tool in the classroom. The teachers were taking part in a professional activity day workshop at R.H. Cornish School in Port Pérry, under the direction of Paul Lafrance, who is a computer consultant with the Durham Board of Education. About 20 terminals and other hardware owned by the Board were used by the teachers during the day-long workshop. The use of computers in the classroom is fairly wide- spread in secondary schools and the same will probably be true for elementary schools in the not too distant future. Physics, math, general science, geography, data processing and computer science are some of the subjects where computers can be used. During the professional activity day, which was: attended by about 100 teachers, there were work- shops in K-3 reading and writing programs; grades 4 and 5 science; grade 6 consumer education and language across the curric- ulum grade 7 and 8.
