Auction sale at the Brooklin Community Centre, Brooklin. Household contents for MRS. STELLA MARTIN Oshawa, and accumulation of over 60 years of collecting. Davis Auction Service 728-4455. by Mrs. Earl Reader Bright and early last Monday morning the follow- ing ladies from the U.C.W.'s -Mrs. Madeline Cawker, Mrs. Margaret Morrow and her friend from Niagara Falls, Mrs. Marion Carter, Mrs. Alva Thompson and. Mrs. Reta Reader drove to Bowmanville for a Presby- terial meeting which includ- ed lunch. Most groups took in one day's pay, many knitted items, Campbell soup labels and even used stamps. There were reports from many areas and the literature room received much interest. One high light of the afternoon was a panel to lead in a discussion of "Christian Morality To-day". Of the four members, we were proud to have a representa- tive from the Educational in the person of Jerry Le Roy of Fralick's Beach. After each member had 5 minutes to express his or her views, many written questions were received from the audience for an opinion. A House of Commons report on the Disabled and Handicapped was very informative as to what is being done so that these people may be more inde- pendent in helping them- selves to live a normal life. The "Head" U.C.W. meets to-night (Wed.) at the home of Mrs. Irene Carter. The "Grace" U.C.W. meets at the same time at the home of Mrs. Madeline Cawker. Our sympathy is extended to the relatives of Mr. Allen Jackson who passed away last week. He was a former resident of the Island and never forgot his memories and friends there. From time to time he liked to help the church. We are also sorry to report the death of Percy Collins. He was the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Collins and was raised on the farm on roac 7 now owned by John Price. Tho' there were 12 children, they eventually all left the Island to establish - their own homes. The Island choir concert is preparing a Christmas concert possibly for December 6 and certainly would appreciate some help, especially by the men. Saturday was a beautiful night for children to travel around for their Hallowe'en treats. But 7 good sports in the "Head" U.C.W., also decided they could have some fun dressing up and calling on other members. But we understand the numbers grew as calls were made and the whole party ended up at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Don Gerrow. On Sunday, Don and Bonnie Gerrow were enter- taining the latter's brother and wife from Saskatche- wan. They had come east to attend a wedding and spend some time visiting his 4 sisters. Their mother, Mrs. Stephen will return home with them. On Sunday we were pleased to welcome a large number of visitors at the Island Church for the Baptism of 4 children. It was such a lovely day for families to gather to cele- brate such an occasion. After the ceremony the families were welcomed into the Church by Elder Clifford Redman. The families involved were Tim and i OL EY - Eas LAL] Se SA i Xe 2 iy a / AA oA 2 Se 43) Donna Pearce, now living on the Shirley Rd. who pre- sented their little infant daughter Melissa Lee; Mr. and Mrs. Mark (Ballard) Howsam living in their new Island home just off Con 6, east, presented their infant daughter, Whitney Brook; Mr. and Mrs. Dean Carleton of Pettet's Drive just off Con 10 West, presented their 2 young sons Clinton Dean and Brent Mathew, who were also supported by god parents. While the Sunday School is growing, we'll be pleased to welcome all these future members and trust the parents will always feel a warm welcome within the Church. Rev. Linstead officiated Prince by Earline Armstrong A little bird told me that Harold Fisher up on Simcoe St. had the misfortune to stumble and break his leg on Wednesday. Harold is presently at his parents home in Ashburn, trying to get used to the idea. Keep smiling Harold, it looks good on you, the smile I mean not the cast. Deepest sympathy to Owen and Shirley Kennedy in the loss of their son Trevor on Friday night. The Couples Club from Prince Albert let their hair down on Friday, October 30 and 11 couples turned up at the church basement in custom for a Hallowe'en party. Diana Brough wants to say Thank you to the strange old man who showed up during the night, stayed for an hour and half then left without any lunch. You were a barrel of laughs, come again anytime. Please remember December 19 is the Couples Christmas Dance. Maybe that strange old man will turn up their. John and Bonnie Chambers had their little son "Jason John' christened on Sunday at Prince Albert church. I am told John and Bonnie are moving to Black- water in November. Good Luck to you all in your new home. The Crosier Family have moved into their new home on Union Ave., drop by and see them sometime, Grace and Les Beacock did and brought them a beautiful supper, now aren't you glad you picked Prince Albert to live in. The Legion Ladies Auxil- iary, held their money draw on Saturday, October 31 and the $100.00 prize went to Marion Lee from Honey's Beach, $50.00 went to Art Pomeroy from Seagrave and $25.00 to Dan Maschke from Seagrave. In some countries children do not have a very high value. As an example; a little child in a mission hospi- tal in India, upon receiving restored sight, saw a picture of Jesus with little children and had the picture explained and that it was on account of Jesus, that he had received his healing. In our culture most children are considered priceless and give much pleasure to their parents. They have a good sense of humour and give adults many occasions for laughter and Mr. Linstead quoted a few examples of which the following was out- Albert Mr. and Mrs. Ken Stevens from Brooklin called on Mr. and Mrs. Bill Armstrong on Sunday afternoon. Tweedsmuir History was the topice of interest and discussion at our meeting on Wednesday, October 28 at the home of Mrs. John Bruce,. R.R.1, Port Perry. Mrs. Ann Davies who is our Curator attended a Tweeds- muir History Workshop recently and brought up to date with our book and asked that we keep up dating our standing. When a family visited another family for a meal, the blessing was asked before the food was served. A visiting child was asked if his family had prayer before a meal. The boy replied, "no, because his mother was a good cook, and they didn't need to ask for protection." The summary was that we need to set a good example for our children. Love reaches out to others.
