This program has been operating for 28 months, offering riding in- structions to Handicapped children ages 4-18. Everyone interested in learning about the work of the Association or watching the riders display their skills are welcome to attend. Refresh- ments will be served. On Saturday, September 19 this association will hold a Ride-a-thon at Hoskin Stables. Trophies will be awarded to the individual rider with the highest earnings and to the group or stable with the highest earnings. All riders will receive crests. Nestleton Women's Institute met in the Com- munity Centre on Wednes- day Sept. 2, at 1:30 p.m. Eleven members and three visitors were welcomed by President Mrs. L. Malcolm. Following the Ode and Mary Stewart Collect the president read a poem "The Farmer's Wife."" Mrs. R. Davison presided at the piano. Secre- tary Mrs. M. Firlit read the minutes, Correspondence and gave the Financial report. Members were reminded of the Fun Fair in October and suggestions were given for a skit. A delegate was appointed to attend the Central Ontario Area Con- vention in Toronto in November, - The Roll Call - "Whats "your problem?" was . answered by all present with a great variety of problems and humorous replies. Mrs. H. McLaughlin, convenor of Agriculture and Canadian Industries was in charge of the excellent program. The Motto "Life without neigh- bours is like a garden with- out flowers' was given by Mrs. R. Nottingham. She closed her worthwhile remarks with two short poems on neighbourliness. Mrs. H. McLaughlin intro- duced guest speaker, Mrs. David Petrie of Analda Nurseries. She gave valuable advice on Fall gardening projects and answered many general questions on gardening. Following her excellent talk, Mrs. McLaughlin presented her with a token of apprecia- tion, and a beautiful bouquet of Gladiolus from the garden of Mrs. G. Donneral. Mrs. R. Davison gave an intereting reading entitled A Girl in Her Garden" by Ethel Chapman. Mrs. G. Fish concluded the program by reading '"'A Little Girl's Prayer" The meeting closed with O Canada followed by the Institute Grace. During the social hour, delicious sandwiches, relishes, cookies and a cup of tea was served by Mrs. M. Fisher's group. Mrs. M. Firlit voiced appreciation to the speaker and all respon- sible for another worthwhile meeting. The next regular meeting will be held Wed. 'A Refreshing Holiday Jim and Evelyn Souter of ~ Scugog Point enjoyed the five days holidaying at Deer Lodge, Haliburton, with the Port Perry Senior Citizens last week. It was for fun - Senior Olympics. Jim was a winner! Firstly - he won an Olympic Medal for Lawn Darts - 2nd prize for Lawn Bowling and 3rd prize for Wall Darts. Congratulations Jim! He reports the accom- modations were good and the meals excellent. Cookies and coffee were served during the evening. Caesarea Community Church The Caesarea Community Church held a water Baptismal service at Cart- wright Park on Sunday, August 30th, 11 a.m. The following candidates were baptised by Pastor Racz- kowski: Jodi Iverson, Oshawa, Heather and Pamela Williams of Port Perry. Last year the Caes- area Church held their first Baptismal service on Sunday, August 31, also at Cartwright Park at which time there were three candidates. They comprise the following: Kelly Chistel, Caesarea, her sister Katy, and lastly the Pastor ahd the privilege of baptising his wife, Reta Rebecca. The Pastor and his wife are residents of Oshawa. Honeydale Members Hold First Fall Meeting With an attendance of almost 30 members the Honeydale Branch met in the Municipal Hall on Thursday, Sept. 3rd. President Helen MacMaster presided opening with the Ode and Collect and cordial welcome to all. Roll Call was answered by a suggestion for a Resolu- tion. Motto: "Resolutions are for the voice of the people, and their voices should be heard." A report of Ontario County picnic was given and two carloads from Honeydale attended and enjoyed the day very much. Honeydale W.I. will be in charge of the recreation for the 1982 picnic. The Central Ontario Area 79th Convention will be held November 3 and 4 at the Royal York Hotel, Toronto. Those "who plan to attend must register with the Royal York Hotel not later than Oct. 3rd. Mrs. Marion Johnston is the delegate from Honeydale. Honeydale Branch is chartering a bus on the Tuesday - the 3rd. Resolutions were read by the Secretary and were tabled until the October meeting, to be studied further. Mrs. Marion Johnston program convenor intro- duced the guest speaker Mr. Fred Walker formerly of Port Perry - now of Caesarea - who spoke about the new Centre in Oshawa for the deaf. A very dedicated and interested person and he presented an excellent talk relating to impaired hearing - the many problems facing the deaf and what can be done to help alleviate frustration - discouragement and so on. The deaf find it hard to adjust. There are many mixed feelings. Fred said they have many volunteers at the Centre - and they do not receive any pay - they just wish to assist. Interpreters are needed to help the deaf folks. Dona- tions would be welcomed. The Lion's Club of Oshawa is involved in giving assist- ance. Anyone wishing infor- mation may contact the Centre at 364 Simcoe Street South, Oshawa. The meeting closed with O Canada and W.I. Grace. Members enjoyed refresh- ments served by the group in charge and a social hour. A thank you was extended by the President to the speaker and the group responsible for - the splendid meeting.
