Sow m by Brian Mark Cup day on Saturday, 12th September, marks the end of another successful soccer season, With an. increased registration of well over 300 children, the resulting 22 teams at times stretched the resources of coaches and referees, but in general everyone had a good time. The mini league usually composed of 4 teams 'was increased to 5 and indeed could have had more. Fun not competitiveness is the rule in this league and an extremely good bunch of coaches and helpers did a great job of looking after the small kids in this respect. Their contribution on cup day is a series of short games with every team play- ing one another. Everyone gets'a small trophy, a club crest, their team photo, the inevitable hot dog and drink and, of course, they keep their entire uniform this year. The squirt league had some problems in making sufficient numbers for 4 teams and perhaps this was mirrored in the standard of - their play not being as high as it should have been. They lost their original coach and, though young Bob Rutschman stood in, the girls have suffered from a lack of direction. This Homestead Furniture team has its cup day on September 14. Our two Pee-Wee boy teams played in a Bowman- ville league and though the Comco team, coached by. Ray Walton had a rough time of it, Tony Schincariol's team, Port Perry Printing, did pretty well in the league and exceptionally well in their cup. A combined Comco-Port Perry Printing team is going to do us proud at a Pee-Wee tournament in Stouffville on September 12. The Port Perry Lions Bantam team, coached by Barry Page, was entered in the Oshawa Parks league and finished in third position. Though games were well organized the big drawback was that all games had to be played in Oshawa. By the way some of our ex-Scugog players have graduated into other leagues. Rob Page plays competitive Bantam in Scarborough and Alf and Rob Huggins play junior with the Oshawa Kicks.
