Mayor Taylor raised the issue at a meeting of council Monday evening, and the reaction from councillors was mixed. However, he added that if the strike is not over when the cheques are due to go out, contingency plans for picking up the cheque will be - in place. The Family Allowance (baby bonus) cheques for July are due to be mailed out on the 15th of this month. If the mail strike is not settled by then, the Star will carry information in next week's paper about where Family Allowance cheques can be picked up. And if Scugog has to get rid of its garbage by trucking it elsewhere, the cost to Township residents is going to increase. The suggestion by the Mayor got support from Ward 3 councillor John Will- iams who said "I can see nothing wrong with closing the dump at noon on Sat- urdays." However, both councillors Don Crosier and Lawrence Malcolm expressed reser- vations about the suggestion 'now take a load of yard or household trash to the dump on Saturdays.
