E. Weldon Secondary School Awards and Gradua- ~ tion Exercises were well attended by Manvers area residents, both students and parents. Joe Chidley, head boy for 1980-81, had the most impressive record as far as number of scholastic awards received, almost a dozen - he almost wore out his runners trotting up to receive same. Mike Zieger also had an impressive record. Manvers students were quite prominent in the list of award winners and are to be congratulated for their efforts and success. We shall list those whom we recognize as coming from Manvers and apologize in advance for those we may inadvertently miss. Miss Alison Scott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Scott received the Year one General Profi- ciency award with an average of 97 percent winners included - Danny Mitchell, Wendy and Dan Johnston, Darcy Van Der Veen, Bonnie Priston, Laurie Banham, Jay Grove, Debbie Barter, Wendy Penn (sev- eral awards), Katharina Ehret, Susan Robertson, Wayne Johnson, Shelley Gisson (picked up two in languages), Peter Effir, Mona Malcolm (top girl in Physical Education), Scott Henderson - most outstand- ing male athlete, Lynn Pickering, Terry Spearing one of eight students Gradu- ating in Year Five with Honours (85 percent) in one or more subjects, Christine Craig who received an Excellence Award in Citizen- ship. A successful Jack and Jill party was held in the audi- torium of the Manvers Arena on Saturday evening June 27th to honour a popular local young man - Mr. Warren Sutcliffe and bride to be Debbie Wilkins Warren is a member of the Band "Sweet Dreams" which will be supplying music for next assistants spun the records for the dance. A tidy sum (well over $500.00) was realized to start the young -- couple on their merry way. Their marriage is scheduled for mid July. The Yelverton and Janet- ville charge held a joint church service in Janetville United Church on the occa- sion of the farewell service of Rev. Arthur Rodgers who is moving shortly to serve the Greenbank-Seagrave area. Mrs. Paulina Effer of Janet- ville provided a lovely vocal solo accompanied by Mrs. Ruth Skuce on the organ. Mrs. Rodgers and their family likewise made a note- worthy contribution specially in their generosity with their music gifts so freely given at Church services and other functions. During his brief tenure in this area, Rev Art performed 36 Baptism, presided at 14 weddings, 15 funerals and confirmed 21 new members. Following Sunday a.m. service a pot luck dinner was enjoyed followed 'by a social hour. The best wishes of our joint communities are extended to the Rodgers family in their future for a happy life complete with Christian dedication and fulfillment.
