The Ladies Bible class met last week on Monday even- ing at the home of Muriel Fisher, with about the usual attendance the President Catherine Humphrey opened the meeting with two very thought provoking poems which tied in with the theme . of the evening. - Chrissie McKinney gave the study, -it was a very interesting account of Dr. Bernado and his home. He began bringing children to Canada about the turn of the century and after the First War that they might have a better life here. Several at the meeting knew of boys and girls who have lived or are living in this area who have. done well. She also gave an account of some of our current stamps with ladies pictures on and what those ladies did for our country. After the meeting the hostess assisted by Ruby Bryant served a lovely lunch and a social time was enjoyed. On Wednesday of last week the Linday Presbyterial of the Womens Missionary Society W.D. met in Burns church Ashburn. Although the day started out in show- ers by the supper hour it was lovely sunshine so then many enjoyed a walk around the church and grounds. The afternoon session began at 2 p.m. with the president Mrs. G. Haynes in the chair, the theme for the day was 'Let your light shine" Mathew 5:16. The regular business was conducted and the secre- taries and treasurer gave their reports. The service of worship was given by the Cannington group, Mrs. E. Humphrey of Ashburn sang a beautiful solo, "Theres something about that name." A delicious supper was served at 5:15 by the Ashburn Kirk guild. The evening worship service was given by the Beaverton group. A duet "was sung by Lois Daw and Barbara Porter of Ashburn entitled 'Peace in a troubled world." The speaker for the even- ing was Dr. Eoin MacKay of Fenelon Falls who is at present the President of the John Milton Society for the blind in Canada. This society is not new as the well known Helen Keller was president for 36 along with others. They do wonderful work among the blind folk of today. The Mathews family held a happy family picnic at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Art Mathews last week end. Guests were present from as far away as England.'
