Council told Mr. Glass there simply is no extra money in the Township bud- get for 1981, and Regional * councillor Lawrence Mal- colm suggest the current $25 per hour preferred rate be hiked by $2 per hour. ' The preferred rate is charged to Minor. Hockey, Ringette and Figure Skating organizations. All other rent- al rates are $45 per hour, and Mr. Glass said this prime rate is now among the high- est in the area, and just $5 below the rate charged in Oshawa. "We have to be careful about raising the prime rate, or we could price it right out of business, * he told council. However, Mr. Glass also said that any increases in the preferred rates could create Minor Hockey, which must reflect the ice time rates in registration fees. The fees are now $65 for a youngster to play minor hockey, and this along with the high cost of equipment may have contributed to the fact that last year, hockey registrations were down by about 40 from the previous year, ! The Board's 1981 budget shows it will cost $168,000 to operate the Scugog Arena during 1981. Revenues, in- cluding a $10,000 grant already earmarked from the council will amount to $158,000 leaving the expected $10,000 deficit. Mr. Glass said already the budget has been trimmed to the bone, and the Board is very reluctant to cut back on routine maintenance, be- cause the building might start to deteriorate. One money maker the Board has found is an elec- tronic pin-ball 'machine which is pulling in a cool profit of $500 per month, according to Mr. Glass. Open House upcoming In honour Citizens' Week, June 21 to June 26, Community Care Offices will be open for visitors of all ages during regular office hours. This will be a splendid oppor- tunity to inquire about the many services offered in Scugog Township. You will find an assortment of informative publications which describe a variety of services and opportunities available to the public as well as to Senior Citizens. This event has been planned to salute the Seniors of Scugog communities who have played an important part in the success of the neighbour-helping- Feige bour programs especially for of Senior One member of council quipped that' maybe the Board should put a pin-ball machine in each dressing room. On a more serious side, Mr. Glass said the Board has an outstanding bill to pay of - $2400 for repairs to the fur- nace. He said the Board has been reluctant to pay the bill because the furnace man- ufacturer doesn't think the equipment should have needed extensive repair work. Mr. Glgss told council the. Board feels that up to $4000 should be spent on a return air system for the furnace. The lack of return air means that cold outside air has to be heated by the furnace. This may have caused the break- The Biggest Ctl 1 RANGES or !
