He said students could be hired to collect the parking fees and any profits can go into the municipal fund used to up-grade parks in the community. Area councillor Don Crosier had reserva- tions about the idea, saying "it is not going to be easy getting money out of people." ~ Council agreed to let the Roads committee study the matter before making a decision whether to bring in the parking charge. No Sidewalk this Year ..Despite a request from Port Perry Hospital admini- strator Dave Brown, Scugog council says there is no money in this year's budget for construction of a side- walk from Rosa Street to the hospital entrance on Paxton Street. In a letter to council, Mr. Brown Pointed out that the issue of a new sideswalk had first been discussed in October, 1979. 'The Township's total $7000 budget for new sidewalks has already been ear- marked. It is estimated that the Paxton Street sidewalk could cost as much as $3000. New Industry A new 6000 square feet aluminum stamping plant providing a dozen jobs is proposed for the Carlan Industrial area on Regional Road 8, just west of Port Perry. Carlan representative Peter Koropisz told council that construction on the plant could get underway in the very near future, and it would be operated by Denny . Metals which has a brass plant in Cannington. The proposed site is actually on Simcoe Street North, behind the Carlan industrial mall on Regional Road 8. In response to questions from council, Mr. Koropisz said the company would be involved in the melting, molding and stamping of aluminum in a process that would not generate noxious vapours or effluent. He added that the metal company may eventually expand the plant to 18,000 square feet in the future. Council agreed to issue a building permit for construc- ' tion, subject to guarantees "that there be no noxious vapours from the plant. Request Denied A request by a Queen Street restaurant owner for permission to use part of the sideswalk in front of his restaurant for a patio this summer has been tufned down by council. Emile Kroonenberg, owner of Emile's Place, made the request three weeks ago, stating he would set up four small tables on about half the sidewalk in front of his building. But council felt this would hinder pedestrian traffic on the sidewalk, especially during busy shopping hours. Mr. Kroonenberg said aftger the meeting he could understand council's reasons for turning down the request, adding he has plans to install an outdoor patio with liquor licence at the rear of his restaurant. We had a most enjoyable day and many lawn chairs will be showing off their new cover- ings in Port Perry and area this summer. During the lunch break we held a short business meet- ing to wrap up the final plans for the Annual show on June 6th in the Masonic Hall.
