Benefit night A benefit night and auction will be held this Friday May 1 for the Markham Truax family who lost their home " and most of their household goods in a fire two weeks ago. -The auction and variety night will get underway at: 7:30 PM at Wilson's Sale Barn and Arena at the corner of Beaver Road and Main Street North in Uxbridge. The Truax family lived in Scugog Township northeast. of Greenbank, No decisionon tennis grant Scugog Township council has put off a decision on whether to grant money to help pay for re-surfacing the municipal tennis courts on Water Street until after council learns just how much grant money is available from other sources. . Council was told b y Tennis Club executive members Diane Burt and John Scott Monday afternoon that it will cost about $9600 to re-surface the courts which Mrs. Burt described as deteriorating to the point where a tennis ball no longer bounces truly. She said the club itself is willing to put up about $2000 of the total with Wintario supplying $3200, the provin- cial government $2400, and about $2000 from the Town- ship. Township administrator Earl Cuddie told the meeting that changes to the grant regulations make it unlikely - that both Wintario and the Ministry of Culture and Recreation would put money into the same project. But at the same time, a grant from the Township could be matched dollar for dollar by Wintario, he said. « ' The present asphalt sur- faces on the courts are seven years old, are pitted in some places and contain dips and "depressions. The proposed new surface would be of design specific- ally for tennis courts, and the cost would include levelling and lining. : Mrs. Burt said that if the financing can be worked out, the Tennis Club would like to have the re-surfacing done over a four-day period edrly in July. Members of council in- dicated they wanted more information on what outside grants are available before making a decision on whether to grant money from the Township for the project. ' The courts are owned By the municipality. HOSPITAL REPORT Week Ending April 23rd Admissions ..................... 31 Births ......cccccovvvvvvvrnnvnnnnne 4 Deaths .................
