BES } An effectgive worship service. was prepared by Mrs. Leona Sadler. Scrip- ture was read taken from St. Mark. Hymn "Christ the Lord is risen to-day" was sung. The members were delighted to have Claire MacKenzie who is eleven years old, present her speech entitled "Tye just turned eleven years old", which she gave in the Public speaking contest placing 1st at Blackstock Public School, Grades 5 and 6, and later placing 2nd in the Legion contest in Port Perry. Claire is a fine little speaker with plenty of expression and speaks out well. Needless to say, the members of the U.C.W. thoroughly enjoyed Clare's talk. Roll Call-Happiness is ..... brought forth many interest- ing answers. Sec'y Mrs. Helen Vine read the minutes and correspondence and cards were signed for the ill. A splendid account of Oshawa Presbyterial held March 18, in Centennial United Church was given by Mrs. Gwen Malcolm. Miss Gail Malcolm attended the Bay of Quinte Conference held April 7, at Mark St. United Church, Peter- borough, and found it a stimulating experience. Her report was excellent. - Mrs. Jean Williams pre- pared an interesting Easter programme. Those assisting were Mrs. Leona Sadler and Mrs. Mabel Cawker. Miss Gail Malcolm sang a solo "In the Garden" and many favourite Easter hymns were sung closing with "The old Rugged Cross'. A con- test conducted by the President was won by Mrs. Ruby Parsons. Business Ladies' decided not to have "the Spring Supper this year. Instead- plans are to have a table at the Flea Market in June. Members are remind- ed to save used stamps for Leprosy missionary project to be turned in to Mrs, Marg. France. An invitation was reeeived to attend Columbus United Church Bazaar to be held Wed. May 6 at 1.30 p.m. The U.C.W. are asked to bring items of clothing etc. for a bale and articles may be left in the church. A decision was made to sell the remainder of the recipes at the Flea Market. Meetiffg closed and an enjoyable half hour was spent having refreshments and socializing, Mrs. Jean Williams group in charge of the tea." On Sunday, Dalton and Marge Fisher of (Turn to page 2 4) Garage found for fire truck A temporary home has finally been found for one of the Scugog Fire depart- ment's trucks: The truck was bumped out of the Fire Hall in Port Perry when the department took delivery of a brand new vehicle six weeks ago. And because of budget restraints, the council delay- ed for one year at least construction qf an addition to the Fire Hall. However, because the department wants to keep the older truck as a back-up, a garage had to be found. On Monday afternoon, council agreed to a one year lease arrangment with Mervin DeNure for garage storage for truck at 154 Mary Street. The lease will run from April to April at a cost of $110 per month, heat and snow removal not included.
