TR REE BO ATR APRN | 8 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, April 22, 1981 A fire Monday afternoon destroyed a 'woodshed adjoining the rear of a house at 170 Bigelow Street in Port Perry. Scugog firefighters say the blaze broke out in the shed, and there was also damage to a utility room at the rear of the house. The exact cause of the fire is not known. There were no "injuries. In addition to the damage to the shed and utility room, there was smoke damage to other parts of the house, and a spokesman for the Scugog department says the total could be as high as $10,000. The house is owned by Walter Gottheif. GM hikes auto prices A price increase of 3.4 per cent on average-equipped 1981° model vehicles, effective April 13th, was announced April 3rd, by J.R. Rinehart, President of General Motors of Canada. This is exclusive of all taxes. Suggested retail prices of the Chevette, Acadian and T1000 models will not change. Thieves nail lumber store An Easter weekend break- in at Peterborough Lumber on Highway 7A in Port Perry resulted in theft of what police describe as a 'large sum of money," and credit card receipts. - The break-in was reported to police Monday morning, but with the incident under investigation, details were sketchy as of late Monday afternoon. A spokesman for Durham Police said entry -into the "building was apparently gained through the com- pound area at the side or rear of the store, and the money and receip{s wereina safe in an office inside the store. The police spokesman said the combined loss of money and credit card receipts could run into the thousands of dollars. Again this year, Port .Perry High School has scored very high 'in the Junior Math Contest, ranking 3rd out of 40 partici- pating schools within this district. Approximately 100 students from Port Perry wrote the contest; the top five students being chosen for the school team. These five students are, in order of rank," Kevin Ash, Rob Huggins, Lisa Feasby, Monica W&bb, and Iris Nimz. These fiYe students will receive Certificates of Merit for their achievements, and Kevin will also receive a medal for being school champion. The contest organizers also recognize with Cer- tificates of Merit, the top three entrants from each school from the Grade 9 and Grade 10 levels. These students are, in order of rank Iris Nimz, Jim Rowett, and Robert Dantzer and Sandra Huggins tried for third, for the Grade 9 team; and Steve Barton, Jerry Jackman and Gord Haslam for the Grade 10 team. Incidentally, Iris scored the highest mark of any Grade 9 student for the entire district. Well done Jim Rowett placed 6th in the district for Grade 9's, and Steve Barton placed 8th in the district for Grade 10's. the University of Waterloo also awards Certificates of Distinction to students who place in the top ten percent of only the best mathematics students in Canada. Students from Port Perry High School who were awarded this Certificate of Distinction are Kevin Ash, Rob Huggins, Lisa Feasby, Monica Webb, Iris Nimz, Angelo Sergnese, Steve Barton and Jerry Jackman.
