It will allow atténdents to give the doctor a precise description of a patient's condition. In situations "considered critical, the doctor may' decide the patient should go directly to a larger hospital without a stop-over for assessment at the local hospital. In the past, the ambu- lances were not equipped for direct communications with the hospitals, and Mr. Luke says there have been instances when it would have " been advantageous to be able to speak directly to doctors and medical staff. The ambulance radios are tuned in' to the Central Dispatch Communications System located at the Oshawa General Hospital which picks up the message and transmits it directly to any hospital in the Region. Also, as part of the improved . communications systems, paging atenna installed. on top of the water tower in Port Perry allows strong, clear signals to be picked up anywhere in the Township.
