THN g { FOR aT FR 1 Nee hy Nestleton, Caesarea news by Mabel Cawker 80th Birthday Celebration A delightful "In "N Out" party was held on Saturday, February 21st, 1981 at the McNeely home on Williams Point Road, Caesarea, in honour of the 80th birthday of Mr. Stan McNeely. Over 100 people registered as guests, including Mr. McNeely's elder brother, 87 years old and his entire family, as well as ten nieces and nephews. Many other relatives and friends from Toronto, Oshawa, Peterborough, Fenelon Falls, Courtice, Richmond Hill, Mount Dennis, Mississauga, Bur- lington and local areas were present. A real celebration and all enjoyed the Informal- ity of this wonderful occasion topped off by a delicious buffet tea. We from this area extend warmest wishes to Stan for many more such events - a very happy birth- day. Mr. and Mrs. McNeely were guests of honour at the testamentory dinner and presentation given by the Board of Directors of Fernie House, a group of therapeu- tic homes for boys, spon- sored by the Presbyterian Church in Canada, on the occasion of Mr. McNeely's retirement as the Treasurer. McKay, guest speaker, from Oshawa. - This service was prepared by Native Ameri- can Indian women who represent Indian tribes throughout the United States and they invite their sisters to share in this prayer ser- vice - an inspirational and interesting hour for all the churches in Cartwright to meet together. Nestleton United Church _ Sunday morning service at 11:15 a.m. was fairly well attended with the regulars on-hand for worship. Rev. -- Victor Parsons message entitled 'Living by Cove- nant" reading Scripturs Genesis 9: 8-17 and Mark I: 9-15. In the choir a quintet sang "I Love Him" to the = melodious tune of 'Old Black Joe." The Nestleton United Church Women will hold their regular meeting at the home of Mrs. S. Cawker, Scugog Point Road, on Tues- day March 10, at 2 p.m. Mrs. L. Malcolm's group is in charge. A cordial welcome is extended. The festivities were held at the Erie Beach Hotel, Port Dover. Those present from this area in- cluded Don and Norma Frew and family, Paul & Valerie Mappin, Alan and Judy Frew, and Virginia Frew from Nestleton and Gary and __ Nancy Edgar from Port Perry. Many grandchildren and great grandchildren were present for this fine anniversary party. Hear- tiest congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Frew and warmest wishes for many more. Caesarea Euchre Results Winners for last week's card party were: 1 - Ron Quellette with a score of 94. 2 - Rick Gould with 90. Low - Mardie Handyside with a 47. Lone hands for February - Doris Rohrer and Pearl Day tied with 13 so the prize was split. Congratulations Claire MacKenzie, Nestle- ton, competed in the Legion Public Speaking contest on Sunday, March 1st, held in the Legion Hall, Port Perry, and placed second in the Grades 4-6 category, and previous to this she placed first at the Cartwright Central Public School competition, out of 14 contes- tants in the same category. The president Mrs. McKean welcomed everyone, and read a poem "It is Great To Say Good Morning," and thanked our hostess for entertaining us. After the Opening, a letter was read thanking us for our gift to "Operation Scugog"'. Our W.LI. Conference is to be held in Vancouver in 1983. This year 1981, is the year of the disabled - each W.I. branch is asked to donate $1 per member. We were reminded of the Conference at Waterloo in May. An invitation was read from Bethesda W.I. to their 25th Anniversary on Wednes- day, February 25 at Ux- bridge. Iva Phoenix gave the motto - Business or a Way of Life?" She also gave a report on "Hybrid Grapes", and bug control. Summary Day in Uxbridge was then discuss- ed. The beautiful crewell work done by the ladies was on display. The guest speaker, Mr. O'Donnel, was then intro- duced. He spoke on Conser- vtaion, and wildlife in this area, illustrated by slides. Mrs. Wilson thanked him for a most interesting commen- __tary, and presented him with a gift. A delicious lunch was served by the group in charge. PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, March 4, 1981 -- 9 speedy recovery to Shirley Nicholls of Caesarea who is in Oshawa Hospital recuper- ating since having surgery this past week. Social News Margaret Cornish, Sam and Mabel Cawker enjoyed a Smorgasbord Luncheon at Crandell's Riverboat last Friday at noon.
