David Akkerman and Kevin Gibson will be competing in the preliminary boys class, while Robert Akkerman is in juvenile and Stephen Akkerman in pre-novice as they take to the ice in the Pine Ridge Inter-Club figure skating meet this Saturday in Cobourg. by Marg White On Jan. 29, 1981 The Chris Allen Aluminum Belles play- ed host to Oshawa for their last league game against them. For the first two periods it was a very close game, but then Port tighten- ed up their defence and came away with the win, with a score of 8-4. Scoring were Rhonda White with a hat trick and two assists, Daphne Butt with two goals, Bonnie Bridge with one goal and one assist, Janet Dean and Michelle Andrews each had one goal and Sharon Ashmore and Wendy Burton each had one assist. On Saturday, Feb. 7, 1981 the Chris Allen Aluminum Belles travelled down to Dorset Park again for anoth- er exhibition game. Wendy Burton got her first goal of the year in this contest from a super pass from Val Kraupa on defence. I feel the greatest improvement in this team is the defence of Val Kraupa, Sharon Ashmore, Cheryl Doherty and Doris Riseborough. The final score was 8-5 in favour of Port Perry. Scoring was Rhonda White with 5 goals, and 2 assists, Janet Dean 1 goal, 2 assists, Bonnie Bridge and Wendy Burton each with a goal, and in the assists it was Michelle Andrews 2 assists with Val - Kraupa and Daphne Butt each with 1. Later that evening the Belles went to Lindsay for a league game. Port scored 6 goals before Lindsay knew Broomball play-off action underway Utica, C and B win openers by Danny Millar Utica Farm Equipment Plow Jockeys rallied from a 3-0 defecit to score a highly entertaining 6-5 overtime win over Blackstock in the opening game of the Port Perry Broomball Associat- ion playoffs Sunday, Febru- ary 15. C&B Livestock over- powered Larocque Electric 6-1 in the other match. # The difference between you and a person who's fit is that anything you can do he can do better. The Utica-Blackstock encounter ranks with any breomball match performed in front of the Scugog Arena crowd this year. Blackstock controlled the first period, taking a 2-0 lead on goals by Kevin _Ibbittson and Tom Wotten and increased it to 4-2 by the end of the second frame. Wotten's goal, his first of a pair, came on a strange play. Short took the original shot but it missed the net. Utica goalie Don Card turned to take the rebound on the left side of the net, but it richo- cheted off the end boards and came out to Wotten, who dumped it into the empty net. Card was facing the opposite direction by the time the ball entered the net. Alpe's marker was strik- ingly similiar. Center Dave Dalton fired from the right side but it was wide and came out to left wing Alpe, who tucked it in while Card was out of position again. Utica rallied in the third period on a pair of goals by Bernie McEnaney to force the additional period. He beat goalkeeper Rick McLean at 1:20 on the end of a three way passing play that was flawlessly execut- ed. He tied it with 4:48 left on a 15 foot shot from the right side. Utica carried that momen- tum into overtime, which, under OBA rules, is played with four attackers and no goalkeeper. Len McEnaney put in the first goal when he intercepted a clearing attempt with his glove and poppéd it into the open net. He set-up Bernie McEnaney with the winning goal and the hattrick on a centering pass during a two on one break. Blackstock scored once, with 27 seconds left, and then Ibbittson had a shot blocked in the fading seconds. The Blackstock winger argued vehemently that it should be allowed because, in his opinion, it was stopped in the crease. He turned on the referee even while the play was going on. The only remarkable feat Larocque managed against C&B was to keep league scoring champion Robert Evans totally off the score- board. Evans was not a factor as teammates Tim Ashbridge, Bill St. John, Ron Redman (2), and Don Phinney (2) did the scoring. Steve Robinson scored the lone Larocque marker. Ashbridge drew first blood in the first period, then Larocque netminder Kevin Beer misplayed a seemingly harmless shot taken from outside the blue line. It was not particularly hard but did manage to find the corner. St. John beat him on a shot from the slot. Harris McLure was serving a penalty when Ron Redman took a pass over from Bill Bridge and rifled it face-off late in the period. There was no scoring in the second period but Robin- son spoiled Keith Fraser's shutout try early in the third on a hard shot into the corner of the net while C&B was a man short. 'Phinney putin a centering pass from. Bruce Woodrow on a break and Redman rifled in a shot from inside the blue line to wrap up the game's scoring. At AR TRIAL y MTOR) ALS k j F y a 'beh A ~ Yr.
