'The nomination meeting will be held February 25 at. Uxbridge High- School with more than 600 delegates IA Ross Stevenson expected to cast ballots. Mr. Stevenson, presently operates the family's beef and hog farm at Udora, whichis about 12 miles north of Uxbridge. He is a former professor in the Crop Science department at the Univers- ity of Guelph. He returned to Udora to take over the family farming operation four years ago. The meeting, organized by the Kawartha Authority will hear discussion on such topics as sports fishing, recreation, erosion, farm drainage, flooding and wood- lot management. The Authority hopes to get public input for the water- opposing any plans for a - French Immersion program at Cartwright Central School in Blackstock. Dave Frew, one of the ""organizers, 'said last week that a French Immersion consultant with the Durham Board has been invited to attend the meeting. 'We are. opposed -- to French Immersion at Cart- wright School. We want to present our views to the Board and we want some answers," said Mr. Frew. Mr. Frew said the petition actually was circulated in Cartwright last June when a large delegation of residents attended a Board of Educa- tion meeting in Oshawa to strongly protest any plan for French Immersion at the Cartwright School. He said he is not aware that the Board is moving ahead with plans at this time for the program in Cart- "wright, but he said there is pressure from some citizens who want French Immersion at the school in Blackstock. "We expect there could be 100 people at the meeting this week who are opposed to the program," he stated. . Mr. Frew said the citizens are in no way opposed to the teaching of French at the school, and in fact would like to see more instruction in conversational French taught in all grades. The meeting January 22 will be held in Cartwright Recreation Centre in Black- stock. C.U.P.E.rejects State University for his Ph. D. Stevenson joined the faculty of 0.A.C. for seven years before returning to active farming four years ago. He has gained the professional respect of the agricultural and scientific communities for his research, extension, and recent work on onnovative energy utilization.
