by Danny Millar The playoff race in the Port Perry Broomball Association did not get any tighter Sunday, January 18 as the top three teams C&B, Utica Farm Equipment and Blackstock all won. C&B Livestock remains five points up on second place Blackstock with three games to play. Since C&B has beaten their closest rival in every meeting this season, the only way Blackstock could finish first would be to win all three of its remaining games while C&B lost their three. They have a chance to help themselves next week when they confront C&B. The two top teams have relatively equal games through the remainder of the regular season. After Black- stock, C&B takes on Utica and Emmerson while Black- stock also tangles with Utica. Their final opponent is Larocque. If the teams stay the way they are currently, Utica would face Blackstock in the opening round while C&B took on Larocque for the second year in a row. They should remain in these positions barring: a miracle - by Blackstock. Blackstock had the tough- est time of the contenders as they nipped rapidly improv- ing Emmerson Insurance 2-1 on a pair of goals by center- man David Dalton. Blackstock had the game its own way through the first two periods but a stubborn goalkeeper in Rick Arsen- ault and a couple of bad breaks kept them to one goal. Emmerson tightened it with a goal by captain John Gerber on Charlie Dennis's rebound mid-way through the final game. The key play was probably a second period penalty shot that Arsenault kicked aside. It came as a result of an Emmerson defenceman smothering the ball in his own crease while Arsenault was still in.
