But before he left, council had decided to hold another meeting with residents of Mary Street, who oppose the site plan because trucks would be entering the IGA loading area by way of Mary Street. Visibly upset, Mr. Grieve told the Star that it was his pad of the old arena on Water Street is now open and ready for family skating. The idea for the meeting came after about an hour of dialogue between council and Mr. Grieve, in which they discussed the problems of the waterway underneath the proposed expansion and Queen Street and the site plan. Prior to setting up a meet- ing with the Mary Street residents, council also suggested that Mr. Grieve, council, the consultants (Totten, Sims, Hubicki and D.G. Biddle and Associates) and possibly Mrs. Marj Tripp get together to discuss some of the problems with water flow. An expansion on the IGA will cause some problems to the Tripp property in the case of a '100 year storm" (similar to Hurrican Hazel) and to date this has not been resolved between the two parties. John McDermott, and associate planning director with Totten, Sims, Hubicki told council that there is an existing problem, and they would like to make sure it doesn't get worse. But it was council's deci- sion to hold another meeting with Mary Street's residents that upset Mr. Grieve the ™ most. He told council that he wanted to know where he stood in regards to the site plan, and at one time.went so far as to ask them to turn it down rather than continuing » p to delay it. Councillor; Wolters, said that he felt council had to make it possible for Mr. Grieve to x and his-huysi- ness and ndt to hold it up, providing it 'meets all of the requirements of the engi- neers, council; etc. At this point in the meet- ing, it appeared that council was about to give a verbal approval, but when a Mary Street resident stood up from the audience and criticized . the site plan, council decided on a meeting. Mr. Grieve told the Star that he would hate to leave 'the main street of Port Perry, because he feels their present location is ideal and an asset to the town, but if he - . can't enlarge he will have no alternative but to find a new location. "Council is going to have to get off of their rears and *make a decision," he concluded. Settlement Housel - . in the Heart of Port Perry 183 QUEEN STREET - 985-8234 WALLPAPER J .
