The meeting was opened by a somewhat tired Mrs. Alva Thompson as she had just hurried home from two very interesting days at the Royal York as a representative of the Womens Institute after a previous day of Crewel Embroidery instruction. The théme of the Devotion- al was based on Remem- brance Day and the group read a story of the first World War depicting the life and bravery of nurse Edith Cavell after whom one of the Rocky Mountains has been named. We are pleased to hear that Matthew Stichmann has opened a Photographer's Studio and Gallery on Bay- viéw Ave. in Toronto. If you are up that way, keep your eyes open for it. We wish him much success. We were saddened to hear Scugog Island and area news of the sudden death of Mr. Ed Button last weekend in Oshawa. Sympathy from the Island is extended to the family. It was only in July that the door canopy at the Island Church was dedicated in memory of Mrs. Button while the family attended the service. Now we shall also' consider it as a memorial to him too. On Sunday, two floral arrangements in_the Church_were donations from Mr. Button's funeral which was held in the Church on Friday. We are sorry to hear of the car accident on Friday night which sent Fred Haines of Port View Beach to Sunny- brook Hospital in critical condition. So, you want fo be a teacher. . .
