Staff members conducted tours of Guide News On- October 28th, 1980 a dinner was held in Port Perry at the Reception Hall of the Church of the Immacu- late Conception for the ~~ Ontario Division of the Girl Guides of Canada. Seven Guides were honoured for receiving their Canada Cords over the past year. Five of these girls were from Port Perry District. They Bell; Samantha Espley, Janet Lamb and Kelly West. Commissioners and their Deputies attending were from the Districts of Brooklin; Cannington, Port Perry, Uxbridge, Whitby and Whitby S.E. During the evening many Guiders received Long Service Pins; one having completed 18 continuous years of service. The. guest of honour was Mrs. Captain Piercey of Belleville who represented the Guiding movement with- in the Salvation Army. A series of interesting slides were shown of a camp held this past summer in Claremont for six hundred Brownies, Guides and Path- finders. Also shown were slides brought = in by Commissioner Marion Lee of the recent exchange visit by Guides and Leaders to Eng-.. land, The proposal, from Peel Region council, asked that the provincial government change the laws to require bikes to be less noisy; that there be some kind of licen- cing as a means of identifi- cation; and that the police be given the authority to seize a mini-bike and confiscate it when found to be operating unlawfully. Durham council agreed to endorse the first two propo- sals regarding noise and licencing, but not the section on having police seize and confiscate the bikes. Uxbridge Mayor Gary Herrema told council that there is a problem with trail and mini-bikes in forest areas of the rural Town- ships, and he said that since it's virtually impossible "to catch a trail bike, some kind of licencing might be a way to bring the problem under control. Scugog Township has had some problems with -trail bikes in the southeast area of the municipality. A serious forest fire two summers ago was-thought-by fire officials to have been caused by trail bikers. - Presently Chairman Museum Board * SOME FINANCIAL FACTS THAT VOTERS OF SCUGOG - TOWNSHIP SHOULD KNOW!
