"We have a reputation for high standards of quality, cost-competitiveness and technical and production expertise within GM Corpor- ation that has resulted in GM of Canada earning "J"-car business. Hugh Holland, Fabrication Plant Manager, said that a new 2,000-ton stamping press which would be the largest in the plant, would be added to the 50 major presses current- ly in use. "We are in the process of modernizing our stamping press activities by adding, replacing and re- arranging what we now have and by installing improved handling equipment. This will increase the output of stampings by up to 100 per cent on six of our major press lines." Mr. Holland pointed out that the new press operation would have the capability to stamp about three and a half million control arm halves per year for North American Brazilian, and Austrailian "J"-car production. The resulting weight-saving parts are trimmed, washed and primed, cured in a baked oven and shipped to GM's assembly plants. "We fore- cast more and more use of RIM components as new vehicle designs incorporate more soft front and rear fascias for weight-reduction and durability," he said.
