After a warm welcome to fourteen members and five visitors, president Mrs. Lawrence Malcolm read from "Patchwork and Pieces". She extended a vote of thanks to "the members for active help and . support during the summer with all the functions held to raise funds. An inspiring devotional period was presented by Mrs. Wilfred Vine on '"Prayer". Scripture Act 1: 1-8 was read by Miss Gail Malcolm. Hymns '"'Ode to Joy" and "Let There be Peace on Earth' were enjoy- ed via the tape recorder. The study topic was taken by Mrs. Sam Cawker. She outlined many thoughts in her message on "The Value of Time", concluding with a poem entitled 'Time' followed by prayer. The Roll Call, "What I Like about Fall", brought forth many inteeresting ideas this season of the year. Minutes and correspondence were read by Secretary, Mrs. Don Frew. The treas- urer's statement was given. by the president in the absence of Mrs. Grahame Fish. ' Business Mrs. Bill Nicholls reported on plans for the Christmas Recipe booklet. A commit- tee of three, namely Mrs. Bill Nicholls, Mrs. Grahame Fish, and Mrs. Bob. France are in charge of this project. Members are asked to turn in a recipe as soon as poss- ible to anyone of the above mentioned ladies to guaran- tee a successful undertaking. After a somewhat lengthy discussion a donation of $100. is to be sent to the Live Love Project to sponsor a native Indian. Miss (ail Malcolm is a delegate to attend the Mid- Week school to be held at St. Paul's United Church in Perth on September 16-18. The meeting closed with the Mizpah Benediction. Mrs. Bill Nicholls conduct- ed a skilful word contest and those receiving prizes were Mrs. Milton Fisher, Mrs. Evelyn Edgerton and Mrs. Ella Bowers. The refreshment commit- tee consisting of Mrs. Bill Nicholls and Mrs. Reg Haines served a delicious lunch assisted by the hostess Mrs. Bruce Heaslip. Mrs. Arnold Williams expressed appreciation to the hostess and the group in charge. A time of visiting concluded the evening. Court Lady Snowbird L1930 The regular meeting of Court Lady Snowbird was held on Monday, Sept. 8 at the Nestleton - Community Centre, and opened by Presi- dent Irene Train with Vice President Lyn Bowman assisting. The Roll Call of officers was taken with 7 officers and 10 members present. The minutes of the previous meeting were read by Sec, ~Carol Doyle and approved. Communications included a thank you from head office for a $25.00 Cancer Research donation. The treasurer Marg Lee reported a very healthy bank balance on 'hand. Business A lengthy discussion was held regarding the rising cost of beef and whether the prices for dinners should be raised. A decision was made to check into prices other groups were charging and adjust Court Lady Snowbirds prices accordingly. Oshawa 728-0181 Helen Robinson reported on the Meals on Wheels. The girls felt that everything was going along well so far, but there was some concern about the winter driving. The sum of $100.00 is to be sent to The Terry Fox Marathon of Hope.. There was a discussion regarding the Annual Bazaar. The date is set for Thursday Nov. 27th at the community centre in Nestle- ton. The next meeting will be held October 6 at 8 p.m. at Marg Jone's home, Scugog Point. Coffee and tea were enjoyed while the girls caught up on all the summer activities. Nestleton Presbyterian Church Rev. Fred Swann conduct- ed the morning worship at 10 a.m. reading the 23rd Psalm and John 14: 1-21. A solo by Mr. Stan McNeely entitled "Close to Thee" accompan- ied by Mrs. George Scott on the organ. Following an announce- ment of the sudden death last week of Rev. Fitzsimmons in Peterborough (Millbrook Presbyterian Church) Rev. Swann presented some thoughts on the topic "Is There Life after Death?" The 135th Anniversary service on Sept. 21, will be --held at 11"a.m. with a guest speaker and special music for 'the occasion. All are welcome to attend and lunch will be served after the service. See announcement in .coming events in this paper. Wedding Anniversary Celebration On Sunday afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Malcolm of Don Mills, Ontario, hosted a family party of relatives and friends to celebrate Mr. and Mrs. Percy Malcolm's Golden Wedding annivers- ary. Guests present were: Mrs. Emma Malcolm, Uxbridge, Mr.and Mrs. Roy Wright, Toronto, Those attending from Nestleton comprised Mr. and Mrs. Victor Malcolm, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Malcolm and family, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Malcolm and family, Mrs. Lula Prouft and Miss Ruth Proutt. Other relatives were from Yelverton, Blackstock, Port Perry, Oshawa and Toronto. All enjoyed the delicious buffet luncheon and the happy get together. Birthday Party Attended Norm and Bernice Mairs of Nestleton attended the 90th birthday party for her father Mr. Walter Kent of Sundridge on Wednesday held at the home of brother Lewis and June Kent. All members of the Kent family were on hand for the occas- ion except one. Family members present were: Cecil and Thelma Kent, Vio- let Kent, Grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Nestleton United Church Sunday morning Sept. 14th, at 11:15 a.m. service was held with Rev. Victor Parsons taking as his sermon theme "Perimeters of Witness". Scripture 1 Corinthians 9: 9-16 and John 17 20-26. Miss Gail Malcolm sang a much loved hymn--. Psalm 23 "The Lord is My Shepherd." A confirmation class will be held in Blackstock United Church on Wed., Sept. 24th at 3:45 p.m. The Nestleton Sunday school started on Sunday past and is in full swing with Robt. Mairs, Superintendent at the helm. Others assisting are Carol Mairs Piano and Nursery, Muriel Simms, Nursery, Ina Davis and Janice MacKenzie, Primary and Neta Fish teaching the Juniors. A welcome to all children to attend within the surrounding area. Nestleton Ladies Aid The members of the Ladies Aid met in the Church Hall for the September meeting. Mrs. Howard Lee, President opened the meet- ing with a welcome to all and a hymn was sung followed by the Lord's Prayer. The Devotional from Ecclesiastes Chapter 12 and verses 8-14 was read by Miss Ruth Proutt. Mrs. R. Davi- son read an article on Edu- cation by Rev. Glen Camp- bell from the Presbyterian Record followed by Prayer. The minutes of the July meeting were approved as read and a satisfactory financial statement was given by the Secretary Miss Ruth Proutt. Thank you cards from recent brides and others remembered with gifts. The new 1981 Presby- terian Church calendars are ready for orders. Several items of business were discussed. Plans for the refreshments after the anniversary service were completed. The Roll Call was answered by 11 mem- bers. An interesting pro- gram was presented. Mrs. R. Davison read a poem from the Booklet, Sterling as Silver. Mrs. G. Heaslip gave The Homestead church, dealing with the early days of the Church in Saskatche- wan when the minister tra- velled so many miles to assist the scattered home- steaders. Miss Ruth Proutt read a poem Lifes Steward- ship. A hymn and the Mizpah Benediction closed the splendid meeting. Lunch was served by Mrs. R. Davison and assisted by Miss Ruth Proutt, and a social time enjoyed. Mrs. H. Visser voiced appreciation to all for another interesting meeting. Caesarea Euchre A good attendance for the last Euchre and the lucky winners were: 1. Marg France 88; 2. Clarence Mas- ters 78; Low score Rene Wheeler 47; Tonight (Wednesday) at 8 p.m. at the Caesarea Centre. Birthday Celebration On Sunday, August 17 Mr. and Mrs. Lionel McKeown of Oakwood hosted a birthday party for his aunt, Mrs. Bruce Heaslip of Port Perry formerly of Nestleton with 40 relatives present for the occasion. Olive's sister was a guest, Mr. and Mrs. Wylie McKeown from Caledon East. Two great great grand nephews and one great great grand niece were also pres- ent. Ages ranged from 2 months to 82 years. A marvellous get together for one and all. "Very Warmest wishes," to Olive Heaslip from a host of Nestleton friends. Social Mrs. Winnifred Davison was a luncheon guest with Mrs. Olive Heaslip on Thurs- day last. Sunday evening Dinner guests were Mr. and Mrs. Norman Irvine and Mr. and Mrs. Allan Irvine of Bowmanville. They visited Uncle Bruce at the Nursing Home as well. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gibson, Tim and Darr- en of Palgrave called at the Nursing Home recently to have a visit with Bruce Heaslip. Warmest wishes to Bruce from this area for better health.
