Thora was born in this area and really enjoyed the homecoming week held to observe a special anniversary and in meeting many of her former friends and classmates whom she hadn't seen for many years. As the refrain of the song states - "the roots | A team of Brawny of ones raisin' run deep." Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn McGill had the unhappy if electrifying experience of having their premises struck by electricity on two separ- ate days last weekend. The first time around, the milk cooler for the dairy opera- tion was knocked hors de combat and the next day it came into the house knock- ing various appliances out of order as well as giving Vaughn a "lifter" as well. A freak rain storm in that area Saturday evening provided a flash flood that left the resi- dents of the' south bay of Haliburton Lake stranded from Sunday p.m. till Mon-_ day noon, washing out the road 15 feet wide as the 5 foot culvert was unable to cope with the freshet and the roadway became a minia- ture Niagara Falls till it disappeared into the bay. August 13 Mr. and Mrs. Oram Moore and Lynn enjoyed a recent motor trip to Detroit where they visited Maureen's aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Sedman in Detroit, U.S.A. They also picked up son David at Camp Ipper- wash where David attended a two-week . Junior Cadet camp (near Goderich). Our Headmistress Corrie and number two daughter Mona, sister in law, Mrs. Roy Werry arrived home from Holland on Friday evening. The plane managed to stay up despite any "excess baggage" they picked up during their stay in Holland. They managed to work in several trips to various points - Volendam, where the locals still wear their tradi- tional clothes of centuries bygone (for the benefit of tourists), the cheese market of Alkmaar, the winkles of Amsterdam with their hundreds of boutiques and last but certainly not least the beaches of Sandford where all the ladies run around in bikinis and most of them topless. And this was the trip we stayed at home. Shucks! Mr. and Mrs. Ray Werry, Karen, Trudy and Bonnie were visitors at Malconia while week ending with Mr. and Mrs. Ted Werry and family of Enniskillen. Mr. and Mrs. Marti Mal- colm and Miss Candy Mal- colm enjoyed the long week- end with their friends at Crystal Beach, Ontario. Glad to report Miss Amy Burton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Burton is recupe- rating following a week in Oshawa General Hospital.
