Brown of Oshawa, and Mrs. Vera Goode of Cobourg. A former resident of Port Perry many years ago Vera also visited a number of friends in that area as well. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dayes hosted a family birthday party on Sunday for four granddaughters, namely, Tracy and Colleen Andrews, Christine Dayes and Denise Dayes. Others present for the occasion included Mr. and Mrs. Charles 'Andrews, Prince Albert, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Dayes, Brooklin and Cheryl Dayes, Prince Albert, a cousin. Very warmest birthday wishes to the girls celebrating. Mr. Barry Malcolm, Simcoe, spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. Malcolm in Nestle- ton. Mrs. Winnifred Davison, Mrs. Dora Gillson and Miss Ruth Proutt, Nestleton attended the tea in St. John's Parish Hall, Blackstock, given by Mrs. Norma Wolfe in honour of Bride elect, Miss Beth Park of Scarborough. Nestleton Presbyterian Church At the Church service on May 25, Rev. Fred Swann spoke on the Acts of the Apostles Chapter 1, continu- ing the study of the Book of Acts which is the minute book of the early Church. The mission of the Church, the plans, prayers and call- ing the Disciples is to preach -and spread the Gospel to all people. Mrs. Janice Douglas was the organist for the service. Service next Sunday at 10 a.m. Everyone welcome to attend. Anniversary Service North Nestleton Sunday, May 25 eleven a.m. was a day of joy and inspiration for- the Sunday School children of Nestleton United Church as they cele- brated the 200th anniversary of the Sunday School with the Superintendent Mr. Robt. Mairs conducting the service in his capable manner. With Carol Mairs presid- ing at the electric organ the service opened with the Choir Processional "Praise Him, Praise Him" followed by the call to worship by Dwight Davis and the Invo- cation taken by Clare Mac- Kenzie. "Come Let Us Sing of a Wonderful Love" was sung by the Sunday School Choir. Scripture Mark 9: 33-37 was read by Ken Weir. "B-I-B-L-E" was sung with the Learner's Creed repeat- - ed in unison. The children's choir sang two numbers. '"There's a Joy in Me" and "A Great Grey Elephant" then prayer by Sunday School and Lord's prayer closing this portion with singing "Whisper and Prayer." Offering was received by Dwight Davis and Claire MacKenzie and prayer was given by Arlene Davis. Talented soloists for the service were Laurel and Herb Vine and they favoured with harmonious numbers. A dialogue was presented by Arlene Davis and Ken ~ Weir re-200th Anniversary. Superintendent Robt. Mairs asked the Sunday School teachers to outline their respective activities which was of much interest to the congregation. Nur- sery-Arlene Malcolm, Prim- ary-Ina Davis, Junior-Neta Fish, then the congregation joined with the Sunday School in singing an action song, "If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands." A large anniversary cake decorated with 200 enhanced by 3 candles was placed on the communion table. Memorial and rededica- tion of the Sunday School was carried out, three people taking part consisting of Lawrence Malcolm (Memorial) representing the - older group, Janice MacKenzie (Rededication) representing the Sunday School teachers and Claire MacKenzie representing the students of; foday. A candle by each one participating in lighting a candle. After "This is my Father's World" was sung. Deanna Jacobs pronounced the Bene- diction. As these dedicated folk commence another year in the Nestleton Sunday School, may they have much personal satisfaction out of doing a job well, there is a special responsibility in helping to develop and encourage the young folk and the superintendent and teachers are surely doing their share. Well done. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Cawker, Scarborough were Wednesday evening dinner guests with the Cawkers of "Scugog Point. Mr. and Mrs. S. Cawker visited with Mrs. Sarah Bragg and Ken on Friday last. Sympathy Deepest sympathy is extended to Mrs. Margaret Cornish and members of the family in the great loss of a beloved husband, father and grandfather who passed away this past week in Bowmanville. Our sincere Scugog Island by Mrs. Earl Reader Each year the Farm and Home Safety Department of the Department of Agricult- ure for Ontario County chall- enges school students to design Farm and Home Safety Posters, the best of which are usually displayed in public buildings. Each GRADUATION Ron Hope, son of Roger and Helen Hope, R.R. 3 Port Perry, graduated with a Bachelor of Math Degree from the University of Waterloo. entrant is given a pen inscribed with Ont. Country Farm and Home Safety. This year we wish to con- gratulate Scugog Island's winner Adrienne Fitchett, who received $5 and a boxed First Aid Kit for her effort. There are winners in several localities. GRADUATION Kathy Evans, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Evans, of Port Perry, recently graduated from Durham College as a legal secretary. Kathy is now employed with MacDonald and Lack Law Office, Port Perry. Local teams do well at Chookin Cookout On May 24, 1980 the Chookin Chilli Cookout was held at Greenwood Park on Highway 7. A full day of races, events and contests was planned by the sponsors, so there was something for everyone to do. The weather was perféct- and over three thousand people attended. There were fifty-four entrants in the "Chilli Cook Off" all trying their best to win. Sample tasting by spectators was allowed and their comments were welcomed by the cooks. Those jnterested in tasting carried a spoon and a cup or small plate to receive their samples. At 4:00 p.m. a portion of Chilli was taken to the judges stand and all contestants waited anxiously for the results which were announc- ed about 6:00 p.m. Seven runners-up teams received appreciation certificates, second and third teams received trophies and the winner a Trip for Two to Texas to view their Chilli Cookoff in November. Out of the fifty.four entrants, two teams from Port Perry placed in the top ten. The Port Perry Kinnette Club placed 8th and Scugog Lake G.R.S. Club were 9th. \ Kinette Cooking Team consisted of Chief Cook-Pat Armstrong, Assistant Cook- Barb Varty, Cook's Helper, Marg Lawrence and Caro- lynn Scanlon. Scugog Lake G.R.S. Club members were Chief Cook- Ruby Peyton, Assistant Cook-8andy Day, Cook's Helper-Bill Loates and Doug Day. Hope to see you there. news The heat and sun of Satur- day did not discourage a large crowd from gathering at the Jerry Taylor sale where two auctioneers were kept busy. Don't forget the sale again on Con. 7 next Saturday at the former farm home of Mrs. Reta Wilkin- son. At the Island Church on Sunday we were pleased to welcome back Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Clark as they have been living in Florida since Oct. It was also nice to welcome back Mr. and Mrs. Horatio Kane to their summer home at Sunset Beach. They too appear to have had a very good winter. Many more people managed to attend the morning service which is really the Birthday of the Christian } Church when the Holy Spirit appeared in the Upper Room ten days after the Ascension of Jesus. All summer residents or visitors or anyone who does not have any other Church affiliation will be welcome at the Island Church for Sun. Service at 9:45 a.m. There are still a few tick- ets for the Hard Time dance on Sat. night so just give Sharen Bobbie a call. ....0n Friday night, the Scugog Island choir and their musical friends again presented their Spring Concert, this time to the people of Prince Albert. They will give another pres- entation at Raglan in June. So it proves their hard work is certainly being appreciat- ed. On Saturday, we were pleased to have Alvin, Joyce, and Julie Heayn from Hali- burton again meeting, old friends in odr community.
