Blackstock Womens Institute The annual meeting of the Blackstock Women's Institute was held in the Town Hall April 2 with 14 members present. The afternoon began with a Pot Luck dinner at 12:30 after which the President, Mrs. Shortridge, welcomed everyone and opened the meeting by all the members singing the Ode and repeat- ing the Mary Stewart Collect. Mrs. Samells read the minutes of the last meeting and the correspondence. Mrs. Bradburn gave the Treasurer's report. Mrs. Margaret VanCamp report- ed on the District Meeting which included arrange- ments for the District Annual to be held at Nestle- ton May 8 at 9 a.m. She also announced the 4H Achieve- ment Day to be held at Tyrone April 19 at 10 a.m. The annual reports were read by the treasurer and group convenors. Mrs. V. Bailey chaired the meeting for the election of officers. Mrs. R. Taylor was asked for the Nominating Committee Report for the officers for 1980-81. Follow- ing is the report. Mrs. Shortridge reported that the Parks Board is planning to put a Fire Escape in the Town Hall. The meeting closed with the singing of O Canada. Mr. and Mrs. Bill St. John and Owen of Oshawa were Sunday guests of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Harold McLaughlin and Kelly. A reminder to any 4-H girls that Achievement Day will be held on Sat. April 19 at 10:00 at Tyrone. Any Black- stock 3 and 4 girls meet at the Recreation Centre at 9:15. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Martyn visited Ron and Ellen Martyn to see their new grandson, Joshua Philip - who was born March 31. Ellen's mother Mrs. Charlotte Hemmert of Ohio was a weekend guest of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Martyn. She will spend a week with Mr. and Mrs. Ron Martyn, Luke and baby Joshua in Scarborough. Blackstock Nursery School Members of the Nursery School met on Tuesday, April 8 at the Recreation Centre. Chris Cliff, presi- dent for this year was acclaimed as president of the Nursery School for another year. Vice-Pres. will be Susan Ellis, with Janis Pashley as Secretary and Tallya Moore as Treasurer. The Nursery School is planning to put a float in the parade for Blackstock Fair. The float will depict children participating in various sports. Members were reminded of several community meetings and events as the T-Ball registration, the meeting for parents inter- ested in French Immersion classes and the meeting to be held on April 17 by the School Accomodation Committee concerning Cartwright High School. Blackstock T-Ball teams will receive $75 from the Nursery School to help purchase the necessary equipment. Girls and boys ages 4-6 may still register for the T-ball teams. The mothers at the meeting were pleased to get the photos taken of their children at nursery school. On Thursday morning April 24 the Thursday morning and afternoon classes will visit Mother's Pizza. An Information Night for parents interested in enroll- ing their child at Nursery School next year will be held on Tuesday May 6.
