WHAT WE WANT AND WHY The Libertarian Party stands for voluntary individual initia tive and responsibility because we know that true morality. self respect and mutual respect come from such voluntary individual action. not from government decree or regulation or manipulation or welfarism. And we stand for a Free Market Economy because we know that the free market sys tem has been a Horn of Plenty. wherever it has been permit ted to exist - the fruits of the Free Market System have liter ally fed the world for the past 200 years. Look around the World today and see where there is relative prosperity and you will see at least a remnant of Free Enterprise. And look around and see where there is famine and poverty and you will find a Central Command System where a Government or Dictator runs the Business Affairs of the Country WHAT WE HAVE Well some of you may think we have a free society and a Free Enterprise system | only wish you were natal ) we have in Canada is approaching that4ull central cmmand overnment welfarism called socialism where the g ervenes in almost every aspect of our personal and corporate lives For example the CRTC is a government agency that has com plete control over radio and TV broadcasting in Canada It can even dictate specific programming and it can close down stations that do not play by its rules. Because of this you >won't hear many radio and TV stations criticizing the CRTC and the politicians that control it LET THE GOVERNMENT "BITE THE BULLET" A message to concerned voters from Bob Marttila - Libertarian Party of Canada candidate The Marxist - Lenninist Party is fond of saying "Make the Rich Pay." Well. I've got news for them. They're too late. There isn't anything left. The Liberals. Conservatives and New Democrats got there first. In fact they got to everybody. A recent Fraser Institute Study of the onion-like layers of taxation found that more than half the incomes of Canadians Is now being taken by governments through direct and hidden taxes. Another study concluded that more than 40% of Canadians are fully dependent on government for their livelihood and many others: are partly dependent. An old maxim says 'Power over a man's subsistence amounts to a power over his will. = Can self reliance and independence survive under these circumstances? Governments have granted monopoly powers to the post office. to marketing boards. to railways. to airlines. and unions and almost every manufacturing company in Canada 1s protected from competition by some form of tariff or regu- lation. Oil and gas prices are set by government decree and only those licensed to do so can sell at those prices. Canada is one of the most highly regulated of countries and companies live in constant fear of arbitrary changes in the thousands of rules and regulations created by govern ment. It 1s this fear that discourages investment and it 1s this fear that is driving more and more Canadian companies from this country We with the guidance and encouragement of politicians are degenerating to complete economic. social and moral cannibalism where everyone in the country is trying to get something at someone elses expense or is trying to get his share or is grabbing what he can because "if | don't. some one else will get it~ HOW WE GOT INTO THE MESS Some of our problems were created by socialists by design but mostly the mess we are in was created by default by the insidious process called "vote buying. Politicians have and will promise anything to get elected and every promise fulfilled adds to government control and taxes Thank God they haven't kept all their promises because if they did none of us would even have our underwear left and if we did have underwear it would be government issue underwear and it wouldn't fit anyway. To paraphrase an old saying "The road to destruction is paved with vote buying whether based on good intentions. opportunism. or both ~ HOW TO GET OUT OF THE MESS There are many things that must be done to restore stability and sanity to this country. For example there must be an immediate 10 percent cut in government spending. Maxwell Henderson. the former Auditor General of Canada has stated that an even greater cut is essential. This will allow us to eli- minate deficits and eliminate the cause of inflation which is government printing unbacked dollars to pay for its over- spending. Every worthless dollar created dilutes the value of all existing money. The most important step. however. is to stop this insidious 'vote buying" game before the mone- tary costs completely ruin the economy of this country and before the fight for the unearned spoils of political handouts ruin the social fabric of this country. VOTING FOR CHANGE These vote buying politicians are not going to stop until the voters of this country tell them to and voting for one of the three major parties will not tell them to stop. They will inter- pret your vote as an approval of the game they all play. If you reject your ballot by writing "none of the above" at the bottom you will register your discontent. If you vote Bob Marttila, Libertarian, you will not only register your dis- content you will also tell all political parties that you have had your fill of taxes. handouts and government orders and that you want to set sail for a system that encourages the free enterprise and personal human iniative that has kept Canada going for 113 years Make Your Vote A Positive Vote For Change VOTE Bob MARTILLA LIBERTARIAN PARTY OF CANADA present to explain the work of the Friendly Visitor under Durham Mental Health.
