It was unanimously decided to have a beef supper at the Community Hall on Wednesday, March 26. Tickets will be sold in advance. The men also have become very interested in this project and have promised to help the way they do in other communities. 18 ladies of the Head U.C.W. met last Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. Alstein, where we learned many interesting details involving a holiday in Mexico. The theme for the Devotions was taken from the special day of Feb. and was based on Love. The winning power of Love and God's great Love. The roll call required members to give a song title or phrase using the words love or heart. We shall probably assist in the service at the Port Perry United Church on Wed. March 7th for the World Day of Prayer. It was decided to purchase STEER THIS WAY ... By Colin Ball Easy "heater" to warm up a diesel engine on a cold morning - a light bulb on an extension cord, left on all night. Squealing tires on turns? You may need a front-end alignment - or maybe you're taking the turns too fast. Some pain-killing medication and anti-depression drugs can cause blurred vision. Don't drive if you've taken them. If your accelerator sticks, tap lightly on the pedal, and then try to toe it up. If you must stop rapidly, turn ignition to "off", not to "lock" or steer- ing will freeze. If your car's oil-pressure light flickers on and off, it may be a serious mechanical pro- blem - or just engine oil that's been thinned by water or gas dilution. Let an expert check it. We can spot your car's pro- blems - and fix it, too. Tired, older cars start to burn oil, and lose pressure. Maybe this is a good time to turn yours in for a great new model at COLIN BALL MOTORS LTD. Hwy. 7A West, Port Perry Phone 985-8411 Drive in for a look-see. 100 more of our Cook Books. But the price will necessarily be a little more as we are required to pay more. We already have over 25 orders, so if you are considering a purchase please get your order in as soon as possible. A committee has been chosen for the Art and Craft show for April 26. Therefore if you are interested in showing your art werk please contact Elizabdth Stichmann or Reta Readgr. If you know of someone who has crafts to display or sell with a commission contact Ann Alstein or Clara Dowson. Correspondence was received from Fred Victor Mission and Sara Lee of Bramalea. This will be a busy week as the Head ladies are working on a quilt at the home of Jan. Gerrow. The ladies of Grace U.C.W. have another euchre and bake sale on Tuesday night at the Hall. There will be 2 more to go in March and April. Sunday was a very special "day at the Island Church when we were pleased to welcome the former Mildred Martyn with her family and friends. The occasion was highlighted with special music in song and guitar by Mildred's two daughters Carol and Elizabeth Nokes aged 11 and 12 from Oak- wood, accompanied by their Uncle Wayne Brethour of Uxbridge. We were also pleased to meet Mildred's husband and son age 9. After the service the friends and relatives were entertained at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Allan Martyn, the proud grandparents. Mrs. Martyn was also happy to have her son from Australia who was concluding his visit before joining -~ his wife in Vancouver. Rev. Linstead's story for the children involved a poor, underpriviledged girl in Italy many years ago who was influenced by the beauty of an "Angel statue' which made a great change in her life and ideals and led to a life of service. The adult message was a study of the phrase "Born again', and its full meaning in the time of Jesus and Nicodemus as 4-H unit formed by Debbie Donneral "Food For Friends" is the title of our new 4-H unit. In this. unit girls 12-26 will be learning how to use such small appliances as a wok, food processor, pressure cooker, blenders, microwave ovens and a toaster-broiler oven. We are being taught different ways to conserve energy. Also we are learning how to calculate how much electricity an appliance uses. Allan compared with its meaning today as it is frequently used. Please note that the Official board meeting of the Pastoral Charge has been set for Wed. Feb. 27, at Manchester. This coming Sunday, Feb. 17, all new members on Church Boards and Commit- tees will join in an Instal- lation ceremony. It is possible there will be an Easter morning breakfast at the Community Hall April 6th 8:30-9:30. Please consider if you could attend or help before attending the Island Church Service at 9:45 a.m. If it can be arranged and it is worth- while, you will get more details later.
