|} LY a Members plan Honeydale W.I. 5th anniversary celebration & by Mabel Cawker Thursday, Feb. 7th, Honeydale Branch held their regular meeting. Prior to the meeting a delicious Dessert Luncheon was enjoyed by a good turnout. The meeting was called to order at 2 p.m. by President Clara Warren, members and two guests were welcomed. The roll call was answered by naming a foreign country and stating what they exported. During correspondence many thank you notes were read: A letter from Provin- cial President Mrs. Florence Diamond, New Hamburg, was read in its entirety, her final letter to members as she retires in the fall. Mrs. Diamond has been a fine, enthused President working for Home and Country. .The "16 teams entered in . broomball tourney Broomball fans in the area will have a chance to see some of the best Ontario teams in action this Satur- day as the Port Perry Broomball Association hosts its annual tournament. Heading the list of the 16 teams entered in the day- long tourney is the Sun Life squad from Ottawa, who are the reigning all-Ontario champions. "=~ The Ivy Rangers, current runners up from Angus, Ontario, are also entered in the meet, and they'll be joined by the Toronto Husk- ies, another top Ontario team and a squad from Cobourg that has been winn- ing some tournaments late- ly. at the Scugog Arena, the intersection of Highways 7A and 35, about 20 miles east of Port Perry. Tournament organizer Dave Dalton says he expects crowds of 500 people will watch at least part of the action which gets underway at 6:00 a.m. All six teams from the Port Perry loop are entered in the tournament as well as squads from Barrie and Oshawa, and the eventual . winner will receive a trophy and prize money of $200. Action during the day will be non-stop with the conso- lation round set to go about 7:00 p.m. and the champion- ship final game at about 8:00 p.m. Admission at the door is $1 hole day. The Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario have decided 1980 will be W.I. Year and branches should plan a programme for June or October to promote the Women's Institute activities. A. W.I. Calendar is being printed by F.W.I1.O. with pictures representing Women's Institute Work. "Adult Education" will be kept alive. It all started in some home neighbourhood. Officers . Conference registration must be in by March 1st, with a $75.00 fee for delegate attending. Conference to be held April 29th-May 1st at University of Waterloo. The Corporation of the Township of Scugog letter was received re sending certificates for those cele- brating 50th and 60th wedding anniversaries. Members knowing of any folks in this category please contact the Town Office with names and addresses. April will be Grand- mothers' Meeting and members are asked to take a picture of themselves to the meeting with information as to number of years a Branch member. The 45th Annivers- ary of Honeydale Branch is in the planning stage for a Gala celebration May 8th to be held at Latcham Centre. A committee was appointed to look after same. GUEST SPEAKER After business concluded the President, Clara Warren introduced Mrs. Marion Larmer of Blackstock who presented an informative talk on Community Care and Meals on Wheels. The purpose of this program is to give help to Senior citizens, to families with special needs and to the physically, mentally or emotionally handicapped. The Aim is to provide supportive, practical help which these people need to enable them to maintain and to remain in their own homes. These services are administered through one part time staff person, 12 office volunteers and 147 service volunteers. People are referred to Community Care etc., by doctors, nurses, ministers, families, and other agencies. Volunteers as well as funds are needed. The Scugog Community Care fund raising objective is $2,500 annually. If you can help or need more information please call 985-8461 office hours 9 a.m. to noon weekdays.
