Dec. 5 at the Community hall beginning with a pot luck dinner. It was decided by Institute Members, 4-H Club leaders and girls who had won Provincial Honours and friends. After the singing of the Ode and the Grace everyone enjoyed a bountiful dinner. President Mae Shortridge presided for the business which included a donation for Scugog Planning Commi- ttee and remembrances for the ex-members who are shut-in. Mae gave a fine report of the Institute Convention which she had attended and enjoyed. Jean Adams and Dora Martyn gave an entertaining skit.® Mae presented gifts to the three girls who have obtain- ed provincial honours, Valer- ie Van Camp, Trish Sleep and Teresa Wygerde who have finished twelve units. She also presented plants to each of the 4-H leaders. The collection was in the form of the annual cash donation to the Salvation Army. Alma Taylor presided at the piano for the singing of Christmas carols which was followed by the exchange of Christmas gifts. The singing of O Canada closed the meeting. Mrs. Shortridge announced that the next meeting will be January 2. On Saturday evening Mr. J 139 QUEEN STREET - PORT 985-8481 ED PERRY and Mrs. Donald Fleming, Janice, Pamela and Scott, Oshawa were guests of Mrs. Florence Archer. On Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Jim Archer, Kimberly and Danny of Bowmanville visited their grandmother. A birthday party was held at the Harold McLaughlin home for Harold and Roy. Guests for supper were Mr. and Mrs. Roy McLaughlin, Mr. and Mrs. Ted McLaugh- lin, Fenelon Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Ashton, and Grant, Mrs. Carrie Wright, and Mr. Harold Wright, Oshawa, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Griffen also Kelly and Mrs. W. Tomes were in attendance. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Fraser, Kent and Erin of Agincourt were Saturday visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Mahaffy. On Hourlong from 7-8 p.m. on Wed. evening on CFTO, Mrs. Paula Lishman of this area is to be featured. Her husband, Bill is also to appear on the programme Live It Up on Thursday evening. The date is not for sure but quite possible on Thursday of this week. Blackstock is getting more publicity all the time. Recent visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Harold McLaughlin were Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Beacock, Glen and Gordon and Miss Bernice Beatty. A successful concert was presented by Cartwright A and B packs on Friday night. The leaders would like to thank the parents and friends for enabling the boys to raise about $25 towards the purchase of tents. Congratulations is extend- ed to Trish Sleep, Teresa Wygerde, and Valerie Van Camp who received their Provincial Honours at the 4-H Achievement Day held at Kirby Centennial School on Saturday. Provincial Honours are presented to 4-H members who have success- fully completed 12 4-H Clubs. Congratulations and good work girls. The Senior Citizen Card Party had 21 tables with the following results: 1-Belle Werry-90; 2-Bruce Bright- 87; 3-John Broome-86;4- John Cook-85; 5- N.J. Brown- 84; 6-Charles Nesbitt-84; Marion Bell-Low. The Cartwright Senior Citizen Club held their Dec. meeting and Christmas dinner on Monday Dec. 3, in the Township hall to plan their Christmas Euchre party. 26 members enjoyed the turkey dinner. Their many friends and relatives will be sorry to hear that the Stuart Dorrell family had a car accident Wednesday evening near their home in Northern Ontario. At present Helen is in Toronto General Hospital slowly improving from facial Leanne Van Camp of injuries. Lisa is in a hospital near her home. Better health is wished for both. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Schry- burt and family spent some time last week in Michigan. Larry attended a G.M.L course in Flint while Beth and the family visited her. relatives in Davidson. Blackstock is seen here receiving her award for winning the Ladies Lead and Wool class at the Royal Agriculture Winter Fair. Presenting Leanne the silver cup is RAWF manager John Wiley.
