Meeting The Nestleton Women's Institute met in the m- munity Centre on Wednes- day Dec. 5th for the Christmas meeting. Mrs. W. Bolan presided and the Ode was sung followed by the Mary Stewart Collect. The president then read a lovely peom "A Mother's Thoughts at Christmas" which she had composed. Mrs. M. Firlit read the minutes and treasurer's report. Amonth the corres- pondence was a calendar and an interesting letter from the Grove Institute in Durham County, England, our sister Insititute. Dona- tions were voted to Operation Scugog for Christmas Cheer, and the Nestleton Community Centre. A report of the Indoor Gardening classes was given by Mrs. L. Malcolm. Plans were made to attend Summary Day at Orono Arena on Tuesday Dec. 11, at 1:30 p.m. i The delegate to Central Ontario Area W.I. Conven- tion, Mrs. Don Frew gave her report on the highlights of the convention and expressed appreciation for this opportunity to learn more of the Women's Insti- tute aims and objectives. The roll call, A hint on Christmas Shopping, brought forth some very worthwhile suggestions from the 16 members and visitors present. Cards were signed for friends in hospital. With Mrs. L. Malcolm at the piano, a lively Chirstmas carol singsong helped to create the holiday spirit. An excellent programme was presented by Mrs. Don Frew, convenor of Family and Consumer Affairs. This included the motto, Spend some, give some and save some. She gave some useful information on the Universal Product code and the new computerized check out system at Supermarkets. The programme concluded with The Night Before Christmas Quiz and contest. All joined in with enthusiasm and really enjoyed this. 0 Canada and the Institute Grace closed the meeting. Members adjourned to the colourful Bring and Buy table which had many attractive items for sale. Over $35.00 profit was realiz- ed from this sale as selling was brisk. Delicious refreshments of cake, jellied fruit salad, and whipped cream were arrang- ed on an attractive Christmas tablecloth with a Poinsettia centerpiece. A time of fellowship was enjoy- ed over the tea cups. Mrs. G. Thompson expressed appreciation to Mrs. F. Dayes group for the lunch and all those responsible for the interesting afternoon. The president wished all a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year. The next regular meeting will be held on March 5th 1980 following our winter holiday. Sympathy is extended to the relatives and friends of the late Mrs. Frank (Daisy) Malcolm of Oshawa, who passed away last Monday in Oshawa Hospital. We also extend sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. Clark Williams in the losss of a cousin Mrs. Frank Hyland of Pontypool who passed away this week.
